The recently arrived Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water has (somewhat unexpectedly) been subjected to an excessive abundance of censorship, after many believed the skimpy DLC costumes would be the only victims – unfortunately, according to Nintendo, the mere sight of a girl in a bikini is all too hazardous to the M-rated game’s impressionable western audience…

A video courtesy of a French player, depicting the difference between the Japanese and European versions of the game:

Considering the appearance of Miu in her bikini is part of her job as an idol and not just gratuitous service causes this bizarre alteration to make even less sense…

Should have left the Fatal Frame franchise on Playstation.
Nintendo's probably afraid of upsetting French Muslim
fanatics who will then declare a fatwah on Mario, Zelda and the rest of their roster. I'm surprised she isn't dressed in a burhka.

Well here is the rub in the U.S. it would still be a dodgy issue to have "underaged girls" meaning less than 18 years old being "sexed up" so Sony would run into the same issue. I remember when DOA for came out some of the characters had to be aged up.

People get into lots of trouble if the comment on the "hotness" of a teenager here in the states

It wouldn't have stayed a franchise if it wasn't for Nintendo, KT were going to drop it because it didn't make the dough. I admit this sucks, and the localisation in general is kinda meh, but I'm happier for this game to be censored than never exist.

If they keep this kind of nonsense up, they'll end up like Sega.

And I'm perfectly ok with that. Now you can get their oldies in Steam, and they are making quite some decent games now that they no longer focus on hardware.

...Nintendo just needs to die already...that and all forms of censorship. I blame Christianity for all the bullshit censorship in America. If we don't believe in magic, pagan gods, and eclipses signifying the end of the world, the why do we believe in something equally as stupid but far less fun? The main point is that most sex/nudity related censorship laws (and polygamy laws) exist because of what the church says is "immoral". The most ironic part being this country being founded on separation of church and state...among other things, but whatever.

Lol most people opposed to sex in games are atheist SJWs. They're like you, with your own change the world bullsh-t attitude, just they don't fap to game girlz.

You're more likely to see censorship of games like DOA/Fatal Frame in atheist Sweden than Catholic Italy. Get that.

USA + EU share the same game marketing.
They are not being made independent of each other anymore. Like when it used to be with a USA version and EU version.

So yeah, all western versions of games being censored because of skin is all thanks to the american prudence. All lolies being cut however is thanks to the EU, because of the UK and France deciding pixels deserve human rights.

Well, when those same consumers are absurdly ignorant about what they're buying for their children and then SUE companies because of their own idiocy, it's not hard to understand why companies are so reluctant to show any skin.

Of course, that doesn't make it right and companies should just put their fucking foot down already.

Except for the fact that Nintendo published the game in both regions Japan and NA/EU Nintendo owns the rights to all future installments of the franchise yet someone decided the west couldn't handle it. Even though Bayonetta 2 was way worse with it's over serialization. I am betting NoA will fold and uncensor it

But yeah, the age rating, 18. Why the censorship? Even softcore porn shows boobs at 18.
