Playboy: “No More Nudes!”

HughHefner-Playboy-Magazine

Legendary girly mag “Playboy” has revealed that it will no longer contain images of naked women, the declining magazine instead opting to revive its fortunes with “PG-13” imagery.

Playboy CEO Scott Flanders claims nude girls are superfluous:

“That battle has been fought and won. You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it’s just passé at this juncture.”

The magazine’s circulation has declined from a peak of some 6 million to only 800,000 today, although by removing nudity from its website their online traffic supposedly increased fourfold.

Whilst the fate of the physical magazine seems obvious, the Playboy brand is however still lucrative, at least when it comes to hawking fashion and other goods, and it seems likely this is a major focus of their future business.

The traditional “for the articles” excuse for reading may finally at least gain some credibility soon – its first non-nude publication is due in March.

Well we all get tons of free porn from the internet. And thanks to apple we get to see some celebrity nudes for free. So I don't see any future for playboy unless they try to appeal for larger audience.
Since men are no longer interested, by removing nudes and making it pg-13, teenagers can read them and most likely females might look at it for fashion tips.

"You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free."

As well as every movie, MP3, e-book, etc...

Personally, without naked girls, I don't see any appeal on ever buying a playboy magazine ever again. Their silly life articles and whatnot, you can already find those and similar stuff online for free as well.

That is exactly why I read one issue of Playboy and never read another issue again.

The naked is...well, I suppose it's raunchy but I can always get more of that FROM THE INTERNET. FOR FREE.

The articles are...non-content. It's full of jock-stuff, the sort of thing I have no appreciation of.

I cannot help but suspect that the marketing logic they've stated is an excuse, and that the real reason is to submit to the pressure from the Perpetually Outraged and Offended Industry.

    SJWs ruin everything. No exceptions.

Glorious salute for your excellent service,Playboy.

You've just signed your own death warrant..but no one can deny how much of a bastion of hope you were to the men's world.

They are still going to have nudes on their website. that's where they are making money.

The mag is converting to compete with FHM and maxim. they all cover the same thing but the other 2 get more coverage with the lack of nudes.

Wrong, they got rid of nudity on their website last year. Once they lose nudity in their print publication, Playboy will be a completely safe-for-work entity.

    Comment by Anonymous

Wrong. They have separate pay sites for nudes.

    Comment by Anonymous

The magazine was already dead dude. Internet porn makes magazines obsolete as fuck. Why the fuck would anyone pay money when you can just open up your browser to pornhub or whatever and watch basically anything you want?

At this point it's just as well that they stop printing nudes, it's not a selling point anymore.

you must be rather simple minded to think playboy is nothing more than porn. its even more likely you've never even opened one up in your life.
most actual playboy subscribers actually buy it for the articles believe it or not. playboy isnt hustler and it never was.

For the record they have always had several different female nudes in each issue. Its just that they have a series of full page nudes and a "Center fold" that feature the playboy bunny of the month.

i have my grandfather's old collection my father passed down to me that dates back to the 1950's when they were first published.

it does help that thanks to my father (his childhood was the 1950's) i have a vintage pin-up fetish though.

Playboy wasn't just about nudity. It was well written interesting articles that you could read, then turn the page and go "hmmm nice tits" and move on to the next article. There is just something fundamentally wrong with them taking the nudity out. I wish they'd have stood their ground or at least made the claim that there is nothing wrong with a woman's nipple and pushed to allow nudity in mainstream western culture.

yeah what i always liked about playboy is they were always about "artistic nudity" and not full blown skank porn. for me playboy always served as a middle ground between mom's victoria's secret catalog and the usual porno mags. the articles were always great too.

Same exact shit that happened with the anime industry over the last decade. Water down your content to Budweiser tier levels in order to make it more acceptable to the masses. Good for the company because they will make more money. Bad for the reader because now it's just the same shit as everything else.

Playboy wasn't just porn, though. This isn't even a deal about censorship, it's Playboy trying some less nudes and more casual appeal so they can keep making cash on their magazines. They do just fine digitally and like they said: "you can find all kinds of sex acts, sexy art, sexy photos, etc for free on the internet". Censoring porn is like trying to take away anime from people: shit is impossible because literally EVERYONE can do it now.

Make porn, I mean. Anyone can make porn. Anime is a much harder and expensive progress obviously. Should've used a different comparison.

I think a lot of you are misinterpreting this decision. Who the fuck cares about the mag? It's readership is at an all time low, and revenue from their digital content is at an all time high. Playboy isn't giving up nudity, they're just shifting their focus. It was inevitable.
