It's really painful to watch when all of them are so god awful bad with their aiming and controller make it worse.

Granted, making a shooting game and call it Resident Evil 5 and 6 is, very missleading, to be nice, this title at least tells you it's not a horror game.

Makes sense that umbrella wouldn't be some underequipped unprepared survivors with 1 gun and 2 knives. They are pros who knows what they are doing. This kind of gameplay is only good for Umbrella though.
Fuck that the main characters are far beyond inexperienced survivors. Leon's a fucking secret agent 'zombie expert', Chris is in a spec ops unit specifically made to combat biological outbreaks and started in the STARS. All the females are super survivors. Hell even HUNK cant get more badass than he already is.
Call of Duty is one of the top selling game on PS4 and XBOne so of course other publishers want in on that money so blame the kids buying all the CoDs ans Assassins Creed every single year

There's no accounting for taste. There are plenty of good games on the market today that are cheaper and much better than the crap AAA titles kids get obsessed with. They just don't understand what makes a game good.
as the uncle of 3 children i can confirm that. i show them good games all the time but at the end of the day they wont play them (they usually just watch me playing no matter how much i insist they try it) and instead go back to their autismcraft and caca dookie.
kinda a shame really, i have an nes, an snes, and ps1 that go largely unused because they wont play them and i dont have the time anymore. as for caca dookie specifically, ive shown them doom and quake (1, 2, and 3) but they usually refuse to play multiplayer with me and my friends who are more than willing to teach them the ropes.
It's been a long time since Resident Evil was turned into something completely different. RE4 was the beginning of the end. By now I don't even care anymore. Fuck this shit.
RE4 is the best in the series. A new camera angle isn't the beginning of the end. RE5 was the beginning of the end, when they removed the survival horror and added lots of action and pointless multiplayer.
this reminds me of what happened to final fantasy actually. once they ditched the midevel fantasy of the 2d era it was the beginning of the end really. i really liked final fantasy up to that point, so i feel your pain.
The old Final FANTASY games were full on fantasy titles with sci-fi elements to them. The airship isn't steampunk, steampunk would imply there's some sort of scientific reason for it to work. Take for example the original one; It flies because it's powered by a magical stone that lets it do so. Sci-fi elements were reserved for the bad guys in the early games, stuff like WarMech. The later games never even explained how the stuff worked, it just did. You didn't get the real weird science until like FF6 and even then it's more of a magical technology hybrid.
Nowadays it's less fantasy with some technology thrown in and sci-fi games with magical spells. FF 9 and 12 are the only ones that feel like fantasy games out of pretty much the whole 3d era.
Funny, because even back then FF wasn't even just fantasy. You had Steampunk elements like airships and the like long before the 2D era ended.
RE4 was the beginning of the end because that was when the series turned into interactive movies.
RE4 was not the best in the series! 4 was at absolute best mediocre, and it did mark a major departure from the original formula of RE.

Resident Evil 3 on easy mode was an action game. RE 4, 5 and 6 are based on Dino Crisis 2 arcade inspired game mechanics.
Even Code Veronica had the over the top action FMVs.

honestly the 3rd person view alone is enough to kill the immersion of the game. at least for me anyway. its more interactive movie than game in that sense.

compared to first person shooters of the 90's and early 2000's it always has been. it just looks less casual now because modern shooters have gotten more casual as well.
