You’re just trying to defend people who aren’t even trying to put efforts into being “unique”.

“Genres” have frameworks, sure, but that doesn’t mean they can’t try anything “new”. Heck “scifi” is a genre, and basically the possibilities is endless.

Shounen and shoujo is the same, adventure stories, sports stories, romance stories, slice of life stories, card game stories, mystery stories, cooking stories, mecha stories, heck even stories based on real life occupations(Bakuman) can be shounen, so no, being a shounen doesn’t limit you from doing anything.

Yes, not even restraints when it comes to complexity or gore and nudity, Death Note, Mirai Nikki and many others have stories much more complex and maybe even gruesome than most self proclaimed “seinens” such as NEEDLESS or SAO. The word doesn’t mean shit anymore apart from what magazine the thing is being published in.

And you are aware that these are “adaptations”, which means they are taken from some other source materials, so it matters very little what director or screenwriter the studio hires, because the source material is already very generic to begin with.

And budget also doesn’t change anything, any given 24 minutes anime needs roughly the same amount of animators, which means it’s no excuse to make those talented artist who already live on minimum wage work on shitty projects when they could be using their efforts to draw for a better story.

Also you talk like “following trends” is a sacred rule, well heads up but it’s not, even without a critical standpoint, harem animes have been oversaturating the market with 3-4 harem titles coming out EVERY SEASONS, that’s 12+ harem animes a year, and hardly any of them manages to ever bring anything new to the table.

A good story, regardless of whether portrayed in anime, manga, LN, movie, game or any other media, is one that is unique and impactful on it’s own, not some lazy ripoffs by bottom tier writers who can’t write shit apart from their own fap material imaginations.

tl;dr version: we need innovation.

It’s fucking blade dance of elements all over again. Seriously watch the first episode and it’s this first episode. The only thing this had going for it was the Male MC stopping her mid (generic) sentence and taking his shirt off. Otherwise this is predictable as hell.

So you know, despite it being a few chapters now, the art and story is way better than the anime and its still far behind.

@11:15 I’m not sure which comment gave you the idea that Bakuman is a battle Manga, maybe you posted on the wrong thread or misread it. But who started the mentalities of automatically comparing any latest series with the most successful series of the same genre(s) really baffles me, I don’t recall such behavior being so rampage before the era of social medias. Not sure if you were the one who cited “unique” for every works regardless of media, if so, then why do people not view each series as …
