The westernized opening to the Disneyified Youkai Watch has made its way online and despite negative expectations due to the “blasphemous” English trailer, the opening has been greeted as more faithful to the original than most feared – though some have still questioned the quality of the lyrics…

fact it. disney xd is now officially the new 4kids and that isnt a good thing for the otaku community
While I question all the whitewashing (here's Nate, an average American kid in an average American town full of.... Japanese mythological spirits; granted, this is on Nintendo of America's hand moreso than Disney), I can't help complimenting them on the fact that they at least tried to keep the opening faithful to the original (and unless they pull a DiC SailorMoon on us, I can expect all the background music intact as well). Some people nowadays have no fucking clue how bad broadcast dubs were at the turn of the millennium. Let me put it this way: everything on Fox Kids and half the things on Cartoon Network were pretty much Digimon Fusion quality (or worse; Digimon at least was never afraid to admit that its characters are in Japan). And we mustn't forget Cardcaptors, that English butchering of a shoujo classic that tried to hide the fact that it was intended for a shoujo audience.... and this was all before 4kids completely took over Fox's Saturday mornings.
The censorship was horrific in the 90s.
