China has further demonstrated its passion for honoring existing franchises with “Doraemon is Visiting”, a live action show owing more than a little inspiration to children’s anime Doraemon, despite elevating the weirdness factor to extreme levels by using a real cat for its namesake hero.
A brief PV has also surfaced for the Chinese knockoff:

Look how happy the cat is though!
I hope this time they didn't kill hundreds of cats making this :(
cute kitty
interesting...
Dafuq? Since when is Doraemon actually a cat, and not a robot that has feline features and ever so slightly resembles a cat? He walks on 2 legs and is blue ffs.
Doremon's always been a cat, albeit a robot cat. He just got his ears chewed off by mice before he was sent back.
wtf China?
because they're now stealing Japan's WTFs because there's not enough young people left in Japan to do it now...
Is the cat going to be eaten if the movie bombs?
I'm betting it's already dead. They must've went through a ton of cats.
Where the hell do you find such a nice looking and clean neighbourhood like that in China?! And sleeping on futons with sliding door and tatami small apartment? Most small apartments in China are filthy. That place must cost a fortune to live in.
Never been to the capital I guess?
all is possible when you pirate photoshop.
This is either going to be the best thing ever or the worst thing ever.
I'm going to watch it for the train wreck, and if it's good that's a double plus. Win Win
Not gonna lie, I cat is more than fine.
Challenge Accepted.
It's a web only video, a bit like Dragon Ball Z live Action.
This looks more like an illegitimate adaptation than a typical chinese ripoff.
What is going on, did they get the license for it?
What are you talking about? This is China.
oh boy ... so do they have a copyright license from the owners of the Japanese show? Otherwise yeah ... this is going to be very problematic. Making it a real cat is not going to be enough to not fall into the copyright given the similarities in name and the other similarities of the show. I mean I have looked at this very little and I have never prosecuted a copyright case ... but I would take this one on commission. Unless China wants not to follow their TRIPS treaty requirements this has to be found violating copyright.
Copyright in Japan doesn't affect China if they don't have such laws. Remember that laws on trademarks, patents, and copyright are not international, even if we do get a few treaties that want to enforce it. For example, in some countries copyright infringement is a crime, even just downloading a movie. In others, it's completely decriminalized. Some countries have fair use laws, and some don't. Please understand that the Chinese do not have to respect the copyright of another country in their own country. Hopefully this helps.
Yeah. That's also why they think much of the surrounding countries is theirs. Squinty-eyed bastards.
Who's side are you on? You just made fun of the majority of the asian populace. Crawl out of that sad cave of yours and go simmer down in a tub of acid cause I'm sure it'll do wonders for you.
Yes it helps
Its China? You think they give a shit about copyright?
