No it's not nostalgic!
"Tri" means "Three" in Russian. Just a random fact.
Could be an abbreviation of trinity too.
Also in Slovenian it's the same.
people actually cared about digimon in the first place?
What's digimon?
Digimon began as a portable game similar to Tamagotchi but with the addition that you could train and battle your monster. After that came a PSX game called Digimon Adventure where you had a Digital Monster, or digimon, following you and engaging in battles and "digievolving". After that came the Anime with the same name that told the story of a group of kids who ended up in the "Digimon World" and found digimon partners with whom they solved a bunch of problems that that world had and then were able to return to their world. Then came a sequel called Digimon Adventure 02 that was a direct continuation but with new characters that replaced the original cast as the protagonists except for 2. This new series will be a direct continuation of that. Although the anime had 4 more seasons that had other worlds and prortagonists being the 3rd, Digimon Tamers, the most loved one.
Kill yourself.
It had more interesting stories for me than the entirety of Pokemon's run.
That said, the earlier Pokemon movies far surpassed what Digimon ever had, especially with how confusing some of the Digimon films got.
Doesn't help that the English version and the Japanese version of the Digimon film are two different movies.
I'd say like 4 different movies since the american version cut and pasted 3 different OVA's with horrible dubbing and editing.
It was a hell of a lot better than Pokemon, the anime at least. So the real question you should be asking is, people actually cared about Pokemon?!
Digimon anime actually had plot and continuity!
Pokemon game is still ongoing with millions of fans, so yeah a lot of people do care about it.
And yeah the anime has way less people caring for it than the games, but the fact that it hadn't been cancelled in the past 16 years means it still has a sizable following crowd, whether or not that crowd is a fleeting demographic is another problem entirely though.
They are two completely different series and concept in terms of anime.
Pokemon = More friendly and simply battling
Digimon season 1/2 = trapped and to save the world
Here's the run down.
Digimon was first, as an RPG inspired by tamagotchi. Epic plot in line with the tipical JRPG.
Then came Pokemon, an innovative game based around the idea of trading digital items/mons using the gameboy link. UI wise is a bit awkward but the potential for complex strategies has kept the franchise going for decades.
Then came the Digimon anime with cheap CGI, repetitive transformations and lots of filler talk. But the with epic narrative from the game.
Then the Pokemon anime, cheap writing aimed at prepubescent children, the series is basically a protracted ad for the game. Massively popular with children, including adult ones.
The Pokemon movies are a weird beast, sitting somewhat in the middle of mundanes and epicness.
It wasn't an RPG first but an actual tamagotchi as Bandai wanted to make something that is more attractive to boys than their regular tamagotchi.
Adult forms? Is this some kind of joke? Just because asians can look very young while old, doesn't mean they are old just because they look young.
They are teenagers.
They were teenagers in 02, they are adults in Tri going to uni.
