The next entry into the Resident Evil franchise, “Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps”, may yet again be met with negative criticism as the multiplayer third-person shooter caters to lovers of mindless gun-toting action – leaving long-time fans of the series to wonder whether the original pioneer of the survival horror genre will ever reanimate, or instead merely be reduced to “Call of Biohazard”.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps will arrive sometime in 2016 for the PS4 and PC, but those uninterested may at least have the Resident Evil 2 remake to look forward to.

Portables have taken over the Japanese gaming market because Japan's rapidly aging population spends more time sleeping in capsule hotels, sleeping under their desks, riding the train, etc.
In Japan only children & NEET have enough free time at home to spend in front of an actual television, where a console can be found, and since there are less children being produced, that translates to a decline in console sales. So yes, Japan's decline in console sales is in fact directly linked to their declining birth rates.

This is absolutely right. If you look at any successful PSP/3DS/Vita etc game in Japan, first week sales you'll looking at anything from 100k onwards.

Speaking of that, I wonder when Namco Bandai will be creative with their Tales of games. Don't get me wrong, they're okay. But they basically rehash the same shit with regards to the stories and characters.

I personal think the Resident Evil series is excellent material for and FPS. I can understand fans being disappointed with switch-over, but come on. It's isn't like there's been a really good Resident Evil game in the past few years.

But really, the last time I actually enjoyed a FPS game was Wolfenstein where bullets are flying from all directions and I have to run, gun, and run to collect health and armour. I also still boot up Shadow Warrior from time to time.

They may change something like they did in RE!, but the story, characters and gameplay will be the same.
If you want survival horror you could also try RE Revelation, it´s actually good and more true to the first games than any of the newer ones.
Probably, the RE2 of yesteryear was designed with the N64/PS1 in mind. I guess they would want to modernised it somewhat with layouts and locations and in turn change the game in to a lock en load shoot em up.
Just looked at the youtube description and they priced "Umbrella Corps" at a mere 30USD. Digital download only. Meaning that this is pretty much just a glorified "tech demo", to base reactions off and be used for "future titles". And seeing as Resident Evil 2 "remake" in the next game in development, I'd say without a doubt it'll play the exact same way.

Not to argue but, Doom is not a survival horror. It's a shooter with a horror element. At no point in Doom did you have to try to figure out how to get out of a hallway with 5 demons with only 2 bullets in the chamber. The Survival element in the game is no different than any other shooter. Dont get me wrong I LOVE DOOM!!!

There is no argument. You're absolutely right, Doom is not even remotely a survival horror. The devs themselves even compared it to porn. Doom by design is a quick brain wank for your power fantasy needs.
Doom was also quite predictable with enemy spawn locations. You could pretty much run through rooms on regular difficulty levels and shoot shit.
