Danganronpa‘s transition to the third person shooter genre by way of “Danganronpa Another Episode” has at last been unleashed westwards (or to the blessed land at any rate), prompting the usual naysayers to arrive on cue to deliver their harsh critiques of the game’s admittedly questionable dub work.
The “absolutely atrocious” English trailer:
Danganronpa Another Episode is currently available for purchase in North America.

all english dub is atrocious!!!
It isn't even necessarily that the Japanese dub is amazing, it's that the English is so horrible I'd rather hear the game in a language I don't understand and just read the subs then have to listen to the terrible English performances.
true
How about Engrish dubs? You speak Engrish quite well.
Parody ENG dubs are best
Alot of Japanese games plots are cryptic. I think there could be a market for some really funny parody dubs or subs. I know I would rather play that than some of the more incoherant Japanese games I've played.
The worst part is that this game doesn't even give you the option for Japanese voices. The other games did, and it really wouldn't have been hard to add it.
It does moron you just download the japanes voicovers as a free dlc. 1.78gb
Why would I ever let my Vita connect to the internet? That's just stupid.
It would have taken up a lot more data which is a precious commodity on Vita. The option to download it would be nice though.
There IS an option to download the japanese dub.. for free, you buncha fools. Do minimal research before you speak
Gods I almost waited for the US release. Thank goodness I caved and bought a used copy while I was visiting Japan.
man, they're jealous
cool story bro
cool story, bro
Well, they did release it as free DLC, so there's that.
There's a free SLC for the Japanese dub voices in the PS store
Haters gonna hate
Can confirm, dub sounds horrid. Pronunciation of Japanese names sounds cringe worthy.
nah eggy
few-cow-warh
Game looks terrible and cheesy anyways, so no loss.
ok people should shut up Japanese dubs are better besides anime is there thing they created the god damn thing not westerners all we ever made was stupid cartoons like sponge bub funis dubs are overrated shit that should never exists in the first place
Why shouldn't it if someone wants to listen to it in English? You're not special just because you like subtitles.
You would be amazed if you knew the number of countries where the cocept of dubbing foreign made media does not exist.
Well I mean the countries that often produce a dub for domestic consumption include: the USA and commonwealth(the English speaking world mostly shares) France/Quebec, Brazil/Portugal, Mexico/South America/Spain, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Norway, Israel, India, Pakistan, Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Turkey and while I am not sure where I know that an Arabic dub is regularly produced.*
Although I don't know how the smaller countries in the areas act I know that these dubs are often shared around to others in the region who speak the language.
While I don't know the Africa situation I have heard that the African Union wishes to start releasing media in "local" languages.
*This list is not exhaustive
In Norway only childrens movie are re-dubbed. The rest is subtitled.
@Chen-04
They specifically stated countries without dubbing so Norway counts also more than a little sure that they dubbed the "Lord of the Rings" and "Iron Man" but will verify. Also Arabic seems to be a joint UAE-Egypt endeavor.
The number of countries that don't is also misleading as 15 of the top 20 most populated countries produce a dub. All totaled 60-70 percent of the population could have watched a dub in their first language.
Komaru's voice isn't actually bad. It took me all of an hour to get used to.
However...
Erin Fitzgerald(Not sure if that's how you spell it)
As Fukawa Just doesn't fit.
And she can't really do Crazy as Genocider shou. It just sounds like she's yelling / being energetic.
Just set it so the original Japanese voice work gets played, what's the problem?
Indirectly financing the english re-dubs. That's the problem.
Then import it, you ungrateful fuck.
I do.
Doesn't stop me from complaining about the earraping re-dubs.
Japanese is always the best option, that is a fact and no one has a right to disagree like come on, their voice actors attend special lessons for years, it's a real deal profession not anyone can do like in other countries. The variety of voices is much better too.
Still the dub here ins't THAT bad compared to many others I had to listen to. When reading this article I was afraid I would hate it but I can take this. Sometimes the protagonist will stop sounding like a school girl and like an adult instead, I don't like this and there are some standard boring voices too but it's acceptable.
The english dub isnt even half bad. I played some in english and then switched to japanese. Both are at similar levels.
God this weeaboo "hurr durr i prefuurr japanese even doe i dent understoond it. boot clurly superiuur!" BULLSHIT has to stop
This is ok dub not great not bad....
Nah sounds acceptable, you guys are just pedantic.
No, it sounds horrible, and people who like dub are worthless trash
I agree English dub are trash and I don't really see the point in dubbing it to English in the first place but you cant call all the people who like them trash because they cant read as fast as us were simply more advance than them
No, that's just you going by your weeaboo bias opinions.
nah, it's your ears that's full of shit
Sounds just fine to me. Bunch of drama queens as usual. : /
Hoping you can rotate the camera and see more upskirts of that cutie with the pink hair.
I dont get what peoples problems are with dubs. It sounds fine to me.
For the most part, people share your opinion simply because they don't watch in sub first. If you compare them the difference is night and day dubs just sound so akward.
Im sorry but thats BS.
I have watched subs before, and there is no difference. Except that the Japanese tend to overact, or use super high pitched voices, so it sounds more awkward in japanese.
Besides, how can a native english speaking person even know if the japanese dub is good or bad? They dont speak the language. It could be a great actor, or a terrible one, but you have no way to judge it.
Beyond that, if the audio isnt in your native language, there is little you can understand from listening to it, except for the very strong emotions. Like anger and sadness. You wont understand things like sarcasm, a slight inflection in someones voice, foreign jokes that make no sense in your own culture, subtle hints in voice that might indicate someone is lying, local dialects, ect. I could go on.
If you listen to a line in english, you might think just by the tone in his voice, "Oh, that guy is lying." But if you listen to the same exact line in japanese, without reading the subtitles, you wont be able to understand the tone in his voice.
Yes the subtitles will tell you some of these things. But you would never be able to understand it from just listening. So much is lost when all you have to understand what someone i saying, is just by some text.
Its like the difference between reading a sheet of music, or listening to the music.
Also, most dubs havent been bad since 1992.
Implying we don't speak Japanese just because we can't read Kanji.
Seriously... are you a fucking idiot to not notice subtleties like sarcasm in a language you don't understand? Of course we normal people get all of this, because we are not retarded.
After a couple of years of watching only the original dub you learn Japanese anyway. These days I don't even need subs most of the time.
Do you people not read what he wrote, or are you just stupid or trolling.
He was talking about dubs in your native language, not specifically american.
If you think that japanese actors dont overact, then you apparently havent watched many movies. Especially modern day female japanese VA, because they are more concerned about looking cute and pretty to sell themselves, then sounding good.
@Chen, Where did he say anything about kanji? How about read first (which you should do well since you like subs so much) before calling people retarded. He said right there in black and white, "Subtitles will explain things." He was trying to tell you that you can understand more by listening to the inflection and tone in someones voice (in your native language), more then what some text tells you. Yes the subtitles will have the sarcasm in them, but all the subtle undertones of voice and language are lost on the non native speaker.
Let me put it this way. Can anyone here actually tell if a japanese dub is bad? Name me 5 bad japanese dubs.
Truth. I've listened to many subs and dubs. And dubs have been just as good as the original Japanese voice acting for 99% of anime since the late 90s. This isn't Ranma 1/2 people.
>> but all the subtle undertones of voice and
>> language are lost on the non native speaker.
No, only on retards. I don't need subs to get sarcasm. Even if the character speaks a language I don't understand.
>> Let me put it this way. Can anyone here actually
>> tell if a japanese dub is bad? Name me 5 bad
>> japanese dubs.
That's difficult. Let's see...
1. Shounen Keniya (1984)
..but I'm not sure if it was intentional. It's just too bad to believe they were serious about that one.
2. Some of the 80s/90s OVAs were poorly done, but I forgot their names.
3. Lots of hentai ain't up to par either, especially those from the 80s, like Aoi Taiken.
4. In recent memory I would have to point towards Barakamon. But only one character and that one was voiced by an actual child, which you easily hear from the voice. So... don't know if I should count it, since it's pretty good considering the voice actors age (she was 9 years old, when she did the role).
Don't remember more and don't want to waste time on searching.
Of course, your milage may vary. I've heard people complain about Anno in that one Ghibli movie, but personally I found his performance to be the best part of the movie. Other people claim Lelouch from Code Geass to be badly done, but again, I think Fukuyama Jun did a splendid job, definitely on of my favorite voices.
Rofl japanese VAs overact. Ahahah. Yeah, it's not american dubbers that struggle to act japanese, it's somehow the other way. Better listening to dubs than watching subs and slowly learning a foreign language!
God americans are so dumb
americans are so full of denial. daft nation of over egoistic, hypocritical caucasians- who kills the original inhabitants, then takes in people of other color into their land as working slaves under the pretense of 'multiracial acceptance', and claiming they're 'policing the world for peace's sake'
the only saving grace is they're not as obnoxious as brits
It sounds fine to you because you're used to trash. If you always eat burned food it will seem normal and you will find normal food to taste funny.
Takes about six months of watching original dubs only to get rid of that.
Thank GOD I'm not a weaboo. Those voices sound just fine to me!
"Thank GOD I don't live in a first world country. Walking 2h every day to get some water is just fine to me"
If you're American you might think that, but American pronunciations and intonation are like listening to nails down a chalkboard when it comes to voice acting.
Main problem I have with american dubs is vocalization. Over half of the actors are simply impossible to understand. And yeah, I watch american shows and play american games with their original voices and have no problem at all...
