A PV has been unleashed for the previously announced Phantasy Star Online 2 anime, which implies a much different setting to that most fans would have guessed, as the anime apparently takes place in the “real world” where the MMORPG is a game played by the characters – a very original premise indeed.
The vague trailer:
The Phantasy Star Online 2 anime will make its debut sometime in 2016.

Logged in just to say FU to SEGA. For promising to bring the game to the english market for years, and never doing so. And now they are doing a friggen anime...
SEGA jp handed over the data to SEGA NA yet they only put up the demo of the game then killed it off silently, this is the level of competence regarding SEGA NA and its crew, whose to blame ? not SEGA's JP section of course, while they later handed over another to play-park which that corp (a smaller corporation in SEA region) who managed to output the first English version only available to SEA region not so great of a translation but they least did a job that the incompetent people at SEGA NA couldn't. whose to blame? time to fire those people at SEGA NA cause they are just dissing on the money and the hard work that people at SEGA in japan go through just to make things work.
I know, right? People likes to complain but never realized the problem lies with the majority of consumers in the west, they cannot handle contents laden with too much eastern cultures. At the same time, anything with some nudity is grossly censored without fail while allowing homemade shows with disturbing contents to air. Talk about double standards...
Whenever something is localized, they changes the names to suit themselves and edited parts deemed offensive, all based on their own judgement. Sadly, this practice isn't limited to SEGA alone, almost everything is affected if it's going to be imported to the west.
Haven't purchased anything that's had sega's claws in it for ages. Send these clowns a message with your wallet.
I wouldn't be buying anything sega either but sadly they got ahold of the megaten franchise through ATLUS so i'm stuck.
like they totally gonna notice the money they are missing out from your wallet
Don't worry, managers are pro at counting "missing money" – just look at numbers they draw on piracy losses.
This trailer failed to grasp my interest.
HAHAHAHA This anime is about "schoolers" playing PSO online ?!?!
Just make the anime about adventures in the PSO realm with out the 3 way love stories of students playing PSO shesh . . how many ways can they fuck this up . .
oh wait this is SEGA we talking about . . my bad should have never had my hopes up .
You will recall MANY years ago I suggested a Sankaku clan for Phantast Star Phremium. I'm still waiting. This is that latest shaft to Phans. I seriously got into Final Fantasy just cause I got bored of waiting for this crap. Now I'm addicted and I'm seeing where Phanatasy Star's early games drew inspiration
Bad move, they are asking for trouble. Change the guy in charge already, so good stuff might happen!
Ok explain to me why Sega's using PSO2 as the backdrop for a SAO clone, but ignoring that they could have an actual STORY? I would have preferred they adapted Phantasy Star Universe personally. And they could have even expanded on it by adapting Ambition of the Illuminus afterwards.
Sega sucks.
it appears that the anime has the same plot as the pso2 live stage play.
I am dissapointed.
This game has gone the way of Valve not being able to count to 3.
Valve not finishing the Half Life series is odd to say the least. It was such an iconic series.
Sega's trully the worst and it's not just about pso2 but for every product they have.
Crapcom
eh Konami and EA are probably worse
add square-enix to that list :D
Sega are a pretty fucking dreadful now and deserve to die. Since the Dreamcast died, they've got progressively worse as a company to a point they no longer care about countries outside of Japan. They seemingly forget the success of their previous machines in Europe and America and have turned their backs on their loyal customers.
I mean, look at how they've announced Phantasy Star Online 2 Episode 4 for the PlayStation 4 and have said nothing about an English release. Fuck you Sega, fuck you.
Sega in heart is still a japanese Company they owe NA/EU nothing
If you knew the history of Sega, you wouldn't be saying that.
i miss the dot-hack series T_T
SAO success has done lot of damage to this industry.
And I don't specially dislike SAO, but his success bring us all this MMORPG bullshit to replace old good classic fantasy
I still haven't seen SAO or any of its 99999999999999999999999 clones.
Games like these have existed loooooong before Kirihoe and his shitty harem existed
Lmao. Sword Art Online has done nothing to the JRPG industry in Japan. Games are pretty much no different to what they were years ago.
How fucking high and stupid are you...
Those racist pricks are making an anime? Hope it bombs worse than the nuke dropped on Hiroshima. Years of promising a localization but never do, then when foreign players attempt to play their game they ban them at the first chance they get. It's like they don't want to make money.
>complaining about them being racist
>being racist yourself
kek
How was anything I said racist? Was it the Hiroshima reference? Not racist. Historical fact used as a punchline.
>idk
kek
Huh, no chance this'll generate any outrage anywhere outside of Japan.
Oh great, another school/game anime where the protagonist is some kid with short black hair.
This sucks! They need to make an anime based on the PSO Ep1-3 that started on Dreamcast. Red Ring Rico, Flowen, Dark Falz. This is just generic crap /sigh.
Dark Falz is in PSO2. Plus, I don't get why everyone is crying. Play-Asia has an english server for almost a year now.
http://pso2.playpark.com/en/
fuck you, sega !
give us all the subbed ryu ga gotoku series, especially Isshin
This looks like sucky generic crap! They should make it based on Dreamcast PSO EP 1-3. Red Ring Rico, Flowen, Dark Falz, etc. The story about Pioneer I and II was really good imo.
If you've played PSO2, you'd know the Dark Falz etc stuff is in there.
Yeah. I remember when PSO was about an actual universe with its own story and shit.
Not schoolkids playing a goddamn MMO.
Look at that nub with his nub gear.
