WTF? Who uses Unity3d for a visual novel which has just 2d artwork? I could understand using unity when you use 3d models, but just for showing images and text panels? There is far simpler and cheaper specialized frameworks for that. Heck, I could write a VN engine from scratch in an afternoon. (In fact, I already did).
If it was made with Unity2D that would also explain it.
Though I am curious what language/framework you would use for the engine.
Unity only uses C# and Javascript (UnityScript as they coin it on their platform). There's Boo as well but no one in their right mind would use that.
Unity is useful because it can easily export to multiple platforms, something your custom VN engine built in an afternoon would require a lot more work to do.
