The phrase "instant classic" is used for a work that, we know (read expect) will become a classic because the premise and/or quality is original and good enough that we can safely expect it to be remembered.
Pedigree plays an important role too, since "instant classics" pretty much need to start popular to begin with. Being attached to a big name helps them stay around in the minds of the public.
Example: every Ghibli movie that doesn't suck is an instant classic. Howl was very good so we can expect it to be remembered by at least a couple generations. Ponyo sucked so people will forget it or TRY very hard to forget it.
Determining whether something is an instant classic is hard and it's strictly an speculative matter, but it becomes easier when there is a context that ensures so.
In the case of Valdrive, the context is action yuri, there are not a lot of action yuri titles, so we can more or less be safe in declaring it an instant classic *among seinen yuri audiences*.
