Yup.. FF7 and FF8 were 2 of the best JRPGs ever made in my opinion and the best online MMORPG for me was FF11!

Square needs to remake one of their games that was actually good, and that was never finished on release: Xenogears, the 2nd disc was supposed to be 4-6 new dungeons tons of cutscenes, and such, but had to be cut due to time/budget restraints, thats why we got a wall of text. If any game needs a remake its Xenogears, ff7 was a complete game, and to this day I do not see why it gets all the praise it does, I find the average Tales Of game to be better than any final fantasy title. More fun gameplay, the tales devs don't reuse the near exact same plot in almost every game (look at ff4, look at the main plot points, you'll notice they are in every single following game just about, and I don't mean the kill the bad guy save the world part, doesn't matter if it has crystals or not)
Yeah when I had to choose between Final Fantasy and Tales, I went Tales all the way. And it wasn't just the gameplay that had me choose Tales over FF; albeit just the gameplay was enough.
The story, the characters, and the adventure you had in those games were FAR better.
The only thing FF has over Tales was graphics. That's it.
Music though, I have to say both do a very good job. That can only be comparable by opinion.
Sadly though, it's still a PS4 vs Wii U kinda comparison. The general population of America will always prefer the graphics over everything else.

The reason FF7 has the acclaim it does is because it was the first JRPG for a HUGE number of gamers. They had never played anything like it up to that point. Since then, it's been put on a pedestal and revered. To its determent, I feel.
Yes, HD remakes of titles like Xenogears, Brave Fencer Mushashi, and Parasite EVE would be wonderful to see. But I don't think Squeenix should be in charge of those. They've gotten to a point where they enjoy releasing announcements of games they're working on rather than actually working on those games.
I feel like those less-loved titles would be better in the hands of Atlus (Persona, SMT) or even Mistwalker Studios (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey) at this point.
My first JRPG was Dragon Warrior, and I loved FF7. Granted, I like FF3/6 better, but still.
Mine was Lufia but my favorite is Lufia II. Still I admit I have a serious soft spot for the original Lufia despite the problems I know it has.

In Japan, JRPG's were very common at the time FF7 came out, obviously, yet its still one of the most popular games there. In fact, it ranks higher than FF6 in polls all the time (along with FF10)
Of course i agree that most people regard a FF/JPRG in general they played first higher than they would otherwise. But it clearly still stand on its own merits.
