The often terrifying commitment of otaku has been demonstrated yet again with the conclusion of a recent Yahoo auction, with a 35mm 4-frame film strip – a complimentary gift given to viewers of the “Love Live! The School Idol Movie” that debuted on July 18th – fetching an impressive 913,000 yen (some $7500).
The highly sought after film strip features the energetic Yazawa Nico as she sports one of her well-known outfits, standing with her arms outstretched as if to lovingly embrace her fans (perhaps one reason for the item’s ludicrous if still plausible bids):
The item was successfully sold at a price of 908,000 yen with a total of 435 bids, comparing favorably with the popular Madoka Magica’s film.

But why would anyone want to pay that amount of money on the cell no one outside of Japans Otaku Love Live! fanbase would even care about? Realistically there's no buyer in the world that would give him anything close to 5 percent in terms of value for that outside of Japan.
Well, I would imagine they would likely be office workers of some type or work some other type of well paying job. How else would they get 7,500 to spend on something like this. I cannot imagine anyone merely giving them that kind of money then continuing to do so after finding out they spent on this. You would likely have a lot of spare income to do something like this.
lmao, the regular salary men(slim suit wearing officeworker) in Japan are the main customers for these kind of stuffs. They have income, but no place to spend it, so they just dump money on Anime and games.

What always makes me wonder when I read stuff like this is how these people get this kind of spending money. I mean, I cant help but picture a fat 30-something unemployed failure who still lives with his parents in a small room filled with wallscrolls and bodypillows as the typical customer for this stuff.
