I guess this season is basically "the same school year as season 1 but different days" just so they don't have to deal with the "shouldn't Suguru be going to Tokyo as well?" problem.
It's like you're getting the back stories for first season segments like Hotaru having to hide all the Komari plushies that she made, showing her preliminary designs. Background information that desperately needed to be revealed so you could fully appreciate all of the many intricate levels of storytelling from the first season. Okay, not really, but it's still fun to watch, I suppose.
I'm really not sure whether or not I'm disappointed that we don't get to see all of the characters a year older. But at least Silver Link is attempting continuity with the first season and they're not pretending the first season never happened like with some other floating timeline slice-of-life shows.
