Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata Dies

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has reportedly passed away at the relatively tender age of 55, succumbing to a tumour of the bile duct.
Nintendo’s own terse announcement of the news gives no indication of who his successor might be, but given his lengthy illness and Nintendo’s protracted slump (although Iwata presided over the company’s highest ever profits, so his overall evaluation is likely to be far from negative), Nintendo’s business seems unlikely to be affected – indeed, their shares are actually up slightly on the news.

You can't get a cure for cancer, sadly. Cancer is nothing more than genetic degradation that occurs when cells multiply (i.e. copy themselves). Something can go wrong, in a thousand different ways, and the cell becomes cancerous.
Stopping cancer is like stopping the aging process. Can't be done.
I do hope they'll figure out how to get rid of the cancer once it happens though. Early detection and whatnot.
Except it's possible to stop the aging process. Some people are working on that right now. It's not even that difficult with modern technology in theory. The hard part is applying the knowledge.

Wow... putting aside the fact that Nintendo allowing one of their most notable exclusives go would be utterly retarded at best, for their CEO's death to apparently be the catalyst to let such a game go to their rivals would be beyond disrespectful. How in the hell can you even make such a suggestion in a thread like this? Also, either get a damn WiiU yourself or stop being butthurt over the fact that Nintendo's oft-proclaimed "failing system" has a game you actually want.
Sadly though Iwata didn't do much when he became president in 2002. He may have been a good developer, idea maker for games back in the 90s and was a good part of what saved the game industry crash, but he was never that good of a president/ceo.
He did what nobody else dared to do- he didn't follow the leader. When everyone were just making a bit more advanced versions of previous consoles (or was Sega), Nintendo took a different path every now and then. Wii was a giant slap in the face to hardcore console gamers. DS made way for interactive, on-the-go games. The only new IP in Iwata's years, Splatoon, shows a departure from Call Of Battlefield 27 Laser Mohawk DLC by doing literally everything differently yet staying a damn good shooter.

Oh damn. That's really unexpected. I've always loved Nintendo, and outside a PC, the only consoles I've ever owned have been from them.
And the reason why Nintendo is what it has been for the past 15 years or so is because of this guy.
Seriously, what a loss to the gaming community. My condolences to those that knew him well (friends and family).
Now, what will happen to Nintendo from now on? I'm sure millions of people are thinking the same thing.
What has Nintendo been the last 15 years? A niche product, vastly inferior to Sony and Microsoft. Great fan-loved franchises locked to a single console because of company policy. Almost no third-party developers want to touch Nintendo consoles. Nintendo's ban on all youtube content involving their franchises is incredibly stupid. Their focus on 3D technology in handhelds was a move in the wrong direction. 10000 iterations of the same handheld is also crazy, they are releasing games that don't run on old versions of the same handheld. At least give it a new name, will you?!

Your comprehension skill is lacking or I'm misunderstanding something? In general means they mainly make games for children, I never imply all of them are meant for younger audiences. And your comment about easy game-play = for kids, is an indirect insult to their intelligence.
Nowadays, kids can be very smart too, I mean just look at all those App games available. If anything, it is the usage of words and not the difficulty of the games that makes them suitable for younger audiences. No offense.
They aren't generally targeted at young audiences, they are generally made to be playable for all ages. The gameplay in Nintendo games isn't made to appeal just to children, if that was the case the games would be very easy.
You may be right but Nintendo's game are generally targeted at young audiences which isn't seen much for the Playstation and even worst for the Xbox until Kinect came out. However, family-oriented games is still sparse, the PS has much more games made for young audiences than Xbox but both are still focused on making games for teenagers and older gamer.
People like Rya is only thinking for themselves, they don't care about other age groups as long as things goes their way, is the feeling I get from his/her post.
All of video gaming is preference, don't bash one group of the video game industry over something as silly as what you as one individual prefers. Companies will learn if they make mistakes, like every other company out there. There will be a new CEO over this, so regardless what happened, happened.

...and Sony and Microsoft are inferior to PC. Nintendo at least tries to make an experience that cannot be replicated on PC. Essentially every good game Xbox or PS has exists on PC. There are exceptions, of course, the majority rules.
PC master race. Nintendo best console. XbOne and PS4 are inferior PCs.
If you have kids in your household, would you rather let them study or play games on PC? It will only causes distraction if the kids are constantly thinking of games when using PC, not to mention here are games in the form of CD-ROM as well. Hence by having console games means they won't mix leisure with homework.
I don't think parents would want their young child to play games for hours especially on a PC, those are generally designed for teenagers and above. But at the same time, parents do not wish to deprive their child of entertainments in this modern day where technologies is so advanced that even young children are using cellphones but not all.
And if you are poor, can you even own a PC with internet connection? That's why there is always alternative for all situations.
