The first episode of the mysterious MMORPG anime Overlord has proven somewhat boring to some viewers as it attempts to deliver an overly familiar storyline common to MMORPG-themed anime (albeit with a more realistic approach) – still likely to be greatly overshadowed by the similar Sword Art Online, though perhaps not in the service department.

So, down there... does he have the fleshy bits? Or just a boner?
SKULLJOKE YOHOHOHOHO
not even a boner ^^.
But i heard he will "experiment" on that in later volumes of the novel.
That skeleton has excellent taste in women.
yes, you meant the two elf lolis right?
one of them is a guy...
The question is... which is the loli and which is the shota.
:P
They are dressed in the opposite gender's clothing. The one in the skirt is the guy.
that makes no difference.
Must. Resist. Boner Joke...
Boring...? It's the first episode. What are people expecting, exploding robots?
1st episode should be something the studio tries to pour most efforts and budget into grabbing the viewer's attention.
Believe me, even you won't be giving the anime a chance with the 3-ep rule if all the 1st ep shows is a skeleton guy trying to paint all the walls of his castle.
Looked into it the series, really picks up in, about, 2-3 episodes
No boner can resist titflesh.
greatly overshadowed by the similar Sao?
Sao is the most overrated anime in the history
Sao = Shit
I read the light novels of this, the show will get much better if it follows them.
I doubt that. Because most people would find the decisions taken "morally offensive" despite the sane logic in them. I suspect that they will cut out some of these parts. The LN is quite ... guroffic in the descriptions.
I'd like to know where the information on this assertion came from. How many viewers has the sankaku editor talked to that said its a boring show? The editor has not had referenced no articles, polls, or any other information, showing this to be true. Sounds to me that this is nothing more than the opinion of a rather lazy sankaku editor who did little to no actally research and is merely trying to make their own opinion seem valid by claiming to speak for the entire viewership.
finally someone took the bait, if we don't have a guy like you around this website ain't gonna work
You must be new here, its comon practice for the guys around here.
Why is everyone keep telling that this is boring? If you read the LN this is far better than SAO and Unique since this MC is not a "Where in another world and it's in danger so lets save it" but "Where in another world and lets conquer it" Type of MC
Totally different from SAO since after the death game SAO is worthless it would been better if they expanded the 1st Arc
Anyway the first episode seems boring since it's only laying out the worries and sadness of the MC about his pals quitting and forgetting their hard-worked guild/dungeon and his unexpected transportation to an another world along with the NPC gaining sentience even I would get freak out of it if that happen
He is also thinking if the NPC can be trusted since to him it's possible that the NPC would betray him
All in all the LN has more details where are left out in the anime that makes it boring
Good anime(and movie, and game, and TV show, and any other forms of adaptations) should not require one to read/watch the source material to be able to understand AND enjoy the adaptation independently in and of itself.
I'm not trying to compare it to SAO, but it doesn't change the fact that as an anime, this first episode is very poorly done, it did minimal things to grab the audience attention, did not set up what the protagonist is striving for(what the audiences' expectations should be) and did not even have a preview for next ep, all it was in one episode was purely exposition in a non-engaging fashion.
I'm not saying the story is bad because I did not read the LN, but as far as the adaptation goes, it's not good.
Overlord has one thing that trumps all:
Our dear Yandere Albedo. :3
She would cut your genitals and feed them to you. THEN heal you. Rinse and repeat.
The mmo trope was unnecessary in this series imo. This is a story about a man who takes on the role of a demon lord. A character who starts out practically final-boss-tier and decides to maintain that position isn't exactly common and a pretty fresh twist on the "stuck in a fantasy world" trope we're getting lately.
The first episode really was a drag, and focused on the mmo aspect too much. It kinda fades away and just becomes another adventure series, so overall I think it could've just been written without that background.
she remind me of ulquiorra
I went ahead and read the manga after watching the first episode. Its got potential to either be really awesome or go down a boring path. I'll be keeping my eye on this one.
It's actually awesome. Way better than *coughs* SAO. Especially the LN. It's amazing.
"I am the bone of my boner."
Boring? Overshadowed by Shit Art Online?
Japan, why do you like to eat feces?
Well... the first episode of sword art online was boring as hell actually...
Just give it a couple of episodes to introduce the characters and setting because after that the series takes off. I'm personally looking forward to it's anime adaption!
Don't believe me? Read the light novel volumes.
I did and you are right.
commercialy available in english?
We can only hope they won't butcher it. 'Coz there's some serious shit going on that I would hate to see changed (Clementine and her antics *cough*)
And Clementine's guts coming out of her mouth. :)
Overlord is nothing like Sword Art of Log Horizon. He isn't stuck in a game. He is in another world it's no where near the same.
Do MC has penis to fuck NPC?
He has a boner.
SAO was crap.
Funimation messed up with their episode 1 release. I think anyone who has watched the Horriblesubs release/Funi stream will see that the episode is incredibly choppy when the camera is panning, the framerate goes to shit. This isn't in the RAWs btw.
Yes, Funi's poor encoding makes the show unwatchable.
how can you even mention Sword Art Online when talking about OVERLORD? what the hell is wrong with you? they don't even go in the same damn category, Overlord is more like different world than game trapped.
The Floor Guardians would wipe kirito out. And then feed his own genitals to him.
Kiritos power level seems to fluctuate. One moment he's overpowered and pretty much untouchable, the next he's taking damage and on the verge of losing.
Aids chan in the light novels pretty much kicked Kiritos ass in the one in one duel in ALO, it wasn't even close(The anime exaggerated a little to make Kirito seem better) but even he acknowledged she was better than him.
honestly, i didnt even notice the fluctuation. I just thought he did go easy on her.
@12:01
It was basically because Aids chan spent 24/7 playing the game because of her illness, thus Kirito couldn't compete with someone of that level.
That she had a higher reaction speed than him; no idea how that got adapted to higher power level. Also, much of his power comes from the unexpected element of dual wielding that people don't know how to defend against, and he tries not to use that if possible; do note he didn't use it against her.
But yes, I can see how the variable power level can annoy people.
The fluctuating power makes sense to me. Kirito's out of practice by ALO and using inferior hardware compared to Aids-chan (lol). He also typically builds as a melee glass cannon to further leverage his style of surprise tactics like the aforementioned dual-wielding.
Anyone familiar with RPG's knows that glass cannon builds are either rofl-stomping or getting stomped. Its just the nature of the beast.
Overlord is basically Digimon.
everything is better than sword fart
I've come to a conclusion that anyone who hates Sword Art that much honestly just has a friend who wouldn't shut up about it and their entire experience of it was peppered by that. Because there's honestly nothing in the show that was actually 'bad.' Maybe not the greatest thing in the world, but objectively, it was solid as a concept and as a show regardless of its faults. Even if you dislike the characters for whatever reason, there was nothing particularly wrong with their character setup either.
Correct. And that friend(s) lurk on the Internets, refusing to shutup. Urusai! Urusai! Urusai!
