actually most likely it was a business decision to see if there is an audience using the movies to gauge public interest. now that it has the audience they made the anime.

i mean with 100 eps and all i was hoping for time skips especially early on to get to after the revival of freeza movie where i was hoping this series was gonna start at but still hope that it does get there asap
oter than that i did like ep 1 though
the opening does show another character that looks like bill. so it might take us on a different route than the movie. most of the movies are very off from the series timeline, so there is hope for new material.
as for this 1st episode... it didn't wow me... so... let's hope it gets better in upcoming episodes.

Well I didn't see the movie so I don't care :)
It's a remake of the Battle of the Gods and Freeza arcs, so not a recap.
Legendary fight scenes? Every fan who has suffered DBZ before it was streaming everywhere, shown everyday on some channel or just being able to be completely downloaded with a button knows that Z was the most horribly paced show of all time. Yeah the fights were good (credit given to the director at the time; I hope is he back for this show) but you had to wait an eternity to get to them.
So boohoo to you that the first episode didn't blow your mind. Now you know what it was like watching this show for the first time week to week while Goku runs on Snake way for like 4 months.
Except back in the day we were able to wait, and watch, and it was exciting. The ADD riddles kids of today do not have the attention span to watch it anymore.
If you can't handle it, go watch 50 other things on youtube to get your shits and giggles.

Do people know not to expect something extreme right off the bat? After all this franchise has gone through multiple movies two canon series with only a live action movie, Dragon Ball GT, and Yamcha slowing it down.

i WOULD SUGGEST MAKE A REBOOT AFTER THE FRIEZA SAGA, FUTURE TRUNKS DID NOT COME AND GOKU COMES THEN DUTIFULLY SAVES THE WORLD AGAIN.
personally, I dont like seeing dragonball being remade.
It ended with GT (yes i like gt), just let that great series end like it suppose to instead of giving it new touches and improvements or new story line.
Dragon Ball GT isn't part of the series canon, it also stopped being a part of the canon when the movies came out, and now Super.
Not only was GT full of aids and fail, it no longer exists in this universe. As far as these characters are concerned, it never happened.
Mayhaps they are adapting the movie until the BluRay comes (for those who didn't see it in theaters) and then they will continue with the story? It would be nice to get an official statement or something.

Team Four Star is so much better I can't even bring myself to watch anything else Dragon Ball.

Im sure the movie is gonna fit in somewhere.... Maybe not? who know Akira Toriyama is mental when it comes to timelines.
It's after Buu's defeat as stated by the actual show and every press release about it.
Except the movies (that are somehow going to fit into this) as well as the start of the new season are already out of sync.
Years have passed and yet the children are still kids,
Trunks i believe is a teenager now, and Goten is 12.
Yet they've not changed at ALL.
The only issue here is that there's no consistency between the show and the movies (nothing new in db), but not the placement of super in the timeline, which was what the original comment asked.
i actually like the first dragon ball series better than Z and the following ones, because over-the-top fight with always-stronger-than-strong ennemies are getting old real fast ....
