I dont think its a movie..isn't this the start of the new series?
The series will show what the characters where doing before and after Battle of Gods. I'm not sure myself but that's what I've read in many websites. What I'm actually wondering is if the series will continue the story after Resurrection of F, since it still sets up for another movie or at least a new series after it (hopefully this one).

It is, but if you've read the article and watched the episode and two new movies, you'll notice a few elements that suggest that Super's first few episodes are set before BoG, and is supposed to go beyond that story and detail the events between BoG and RF, meaning that in order for Super's story to be completely coherent, the series would have to retell the exact same story that we already know from BoG, which would either be in the form of a heavily edited recap, or the majority of the movie cut up into a few episodes.
There is one big discrepancy in Super though, so there's a chance that there may be a slight deviation in some areas of the story. In Super, Beerus is awake, when it was stated in BoG that he sleeps for decades at a time, and at the beginning of the movie, he had already been out for quite a while.
Mayhaps they are adapting the movie until the BluRay comes (for those who didn't see it in theaters) and then they will continue with the story? It would be nice to get an official statement or something.
i really hope thats not the cause that would really suck if this ends up being that..
i mean with 100 eps and all i was hoping for time skips especially early on to get to after the revival of freeza movie where i was hoping this series was gonna start at but still hope that it does get there asap
oter than that i did like ep 1 though
the opening does show another character that looks like bill. so it might take us on a different route than the movie. most of the movies are very off from the series timeline, so there is hope for new material.
as for this 1st episode... it didn't wow me... so... let's hope it gets better in upcoming episodes.

actually most likely it was a business decision to see if there is an audience using the movies to gauge public interest. now that it has the audience they made the anime.

Im sure the movie is gonna fit in somewhere.... Maybe not? who know Akira Toriyama is mental when it comes to timelines.
It's after Buu's defeat as stated by the actual show and every press release about it.
Except the movies (that are somehow going to fit into this) as well as the start of the new season are already out of sync.

The only issue here is that there's no consistency between the show and the movies (nothing new in db), but not the placement of super in the timeline, which was what the original comment asked.

Akira Toriyama himself has expressed distaste for GT, and has explained that the show was not entirely in his control.
Notice how it has no anthropomorphic characters?
DB and DBZ were absolutely filled with animal characters.
Something tells me that whatever is made from this point will have little relevance in regards to the story of GT.
