Perhaps in honor of the imminent arrival of Father’s Day, a ranking has made its way to anime fans asking which character they would be most troubled to call father – the list boasting several less than admirable contenders from ancient shows, with one such example assuming first place.

Where the hell is Gendo Ikari?
Shinji was just a horrible son, Gendo gave him robots, women, and cougars.
If Gendo comes with Rei and giant robots I'm sure many wouldn't mind at all to have him as father.
But I also thought he's usually the first person who comes to mind when you think of "bad anime fathers", so I'm surprised he's not here either. I guess it's just cuz he's just such a cool looking dude.

I agree Goku is an incredibly horrible father, but vegeta? He's an awesome dad behind his bad guy facade.
Lol Goku being on the list for literally never being around for Gohan or Goten for that matter. I mean think about it he was either dead or off training through Gohan's childhood and He was dead during half of Goten's then he goes off to train for years on end. Tfw Hercule is a better father than Goku or Vegeta.
Vegeta ain't that bad though at least regular timeline Vegeta really seems to care about kid Trunks.
Hell even GT Vegeta was keeping Teen/Grown Trunks inline and wouldn't let him shake of running Capsule Corp and there the bit where some boy were flirting with Bra and he got rid of them.
So yeah Vegeta > Goku as far as Fatherhood.
It was better when he was dead. The times he was around he beat the shit out from his family members under the name of "training".
Also he never had a decent (or any) job to support his family and felt no responsibility at all towards his children.
Vegeta? What are you people talking about, he's a great father! He's always there, encouraging you to become the best of the best, always supportive in the ways that can best motivate you, and willing to kick your ass if you're a bad kid, plus, if anyone bullies you, he'll either turn you into a Super Saiyan or kick their asses for you
lol you obviously didnt watch some of the "Cell Saga" huh. Vegeta had a kid and wife that whole time and he didnt give two shits about them. He constantly treated them like a nuisance; at one point their lives were even in danger but he ignored that just to pursue his opponent. Future Trunks annoyance with his fathers treatment was a main story point they had during that Saga. Even in the buu saga he was still kinda bad and let his own pride take over.
and why did Vegeta let his pride take over again?
It was because after Cell he settle down and became a "family man" and cared about them. He thought that made him weak and wanted to be evil again. But even through that he got kid Trunks out the way so he could blow himself up to save his family

Yeah, I think he flew under the radar on this one, because he should be a top pick. OTOH, up until he finally lost it and used Nina as a test subject, he seems to have treated her... fairly well, judging by her personality. So, he wasn't a *consistently* bad father, just that one time. Of course, that one time is all he needs to be #1 in my book.

I wouldn't mind Vegeta, because he actually cares about Bulma and his kids. He's rough but at least he loves his family. Wouldn't want Goku, though. He's pretty much a stranger to his own sons.
How about Seiji's father in Cutey Honey? Jeez, imagine being Seiji and having such an annoying, embarrassing, lecherous old man for a father always perving after your girlfriend (as if he's never been laid before even in order to have you born). He's never helpful and always making things worse when he does help. In the manga he even has his childish "U inside U" dick hanging out for a few panels.
Hayate's father from Hayate no Gotoku is never mentioned by name but I think that guy should be on this list.
The only REAL plot point that the show even to this day has long forgotten.
And yet, it made for a far better plot-point than which girl is Hayate going to end up with.... When they ask these questions they almost immediately give the answer which ends up being pointless for them to keep continuing the Harem story, since it wasn't much of a story to begin with.
I only wanted to know is, do his parents ever bail him out? I think the answer should be yes, but he still ends up the Sanzinen Butler anyways. (This time not as a slave to his debt.) Good way to end the series once and for all.
The plot point is that he was literally sold to a gruesome death by his parents.
Hayate has stated he will not forgive them, even if they changed.

probably because he's never home. Wether he's outside fighting powerfull enemy in another planet, or wether he's dead.

Vegeta is a worse father then Goku but it balances out since Bulma is a lot less crazy then Chichi.
