One Piece Sails Into Guinness Book of World Records

The already critically acclaimed and multiple award winning series that is One Piece may have just surpassed even its most esteemed of accomplishments with its rather abrupt listing in the Guinness Book of World Records, achieving the world record for “most copies published for the same comic series by a single author”.
The world-renowned One Piece manga had managed to sell over 320,866,000 copies as of the end of December 2014, with the original creator Eiichiro Oda apparently being so busy that he was unable to even attend his own award ceremony – instead prompting Shounen Jump! editor Yoshihisa Heishi to accept the prestigious award in his place.

It lost its charm long ago... Each arcs are WAY too long, many chapters barely have anything happening in them as well. And he says there's at least just as many chapters left before he's done with it... Just can't kill the cash cow eh. At this point he's obviously not doing this for the love of his work, just for the money. Otherwise there really is no need to make 100 chapters for a single arc which really is barely a day in the story.

I seriuosly tried watching the anime, lasted until 50 something episode, and just couldn't bear any more of this rubber boy bullshit, unbelievably rediculous characters, slow-paced story. And that's coming from DBZ fan.
The funny thing about One Piece, is that so many people hate it, but still read it. For the past seven years I've been reading the big 3, everyone says the same thing over and over repeatedly about One Piece.
When it comes down to it, it's a Love and Hate relationship amongst fans and weeaboos.

Are there any long-running manga that HAVEN'T jumped the shark, though? Even my beloved Hokuto no Ken was forced to go on longer than it should have because the Shonen Jump editors forced the mangaka to. I'm not even a One Piece fan, but this just seems to be be the natural effect when creating a cash cow. It's never the mangaka's fault. He/she is basically just a slave.

That would be Dragon Ball. What the west knows as "Dragon Ball" in anime form, the first part of the manga series, is good and worthy of acclaim, but the DBZ series just watered it down into a series of repetitive tropes and mindless fighting and "shock moments". One Piece is actually more consistently good for a longer time than Dragon Ball and other similar long-ass shonen action series. I'm not saying it's the best anime ever but that it's still better than most... the "least overrated".

i think that you're an uneducated twit if you think a poorly animated, slapsticky, and shallow anime with a bloated story for none other than keeping the manga / anime going is actually quality. being prolific does not change the fact that one piece is a sloppy excuse for a piece of media.
that doesnt even get me started on the fans. they hoard in mindless droves to sing praise and adulation for a series, with no real reason why. if you point out it's flaws or negatives that cause you to dislike it, you're nonchalantly labeled a hater, and told it's the greatest... but no reason why.
