The legendary creator of the Castlevania series Koji Igarashi has shown off the latest update for his newest Castlevania-inspired Kickstarter game “Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night“, discussing the main character’s movement along with the camera’s perspective, for a project almost eight times over its initial goal.
The informative update video:
Those who want to contribute to the game’s highly successful Kickstarter can still do so within the next few days – Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is being released for the PC, Xbox One, Wii U, PS 4, and PS Vita.
Project hit over $5.5M becoming the 8th most funded kickstarter project of all time, and #1 most funded video game kickstarter project in history. Suck it, Konami!

Hideooooo! SHENROOOOONNN!…?
Did you see him in the new Mega64 video? lol
This is the game, that relives our childhood. another SOTN version for the better!
I relived my childhood already with Adventure Rebirth. This is more like reliving my preteens.
Iga is not the creator of Castlevania. The first game in the series he worked on was Dracula X: Rondo of Blood on the PC Engine CD system. The first game in the series that he directed, was Symphony of the Night.
Regardless, he was the most famous director ever involved with the series. But he is far from its creator.
He did, however, develop the Castlevania that we actually loved, rather than the Castlevania we crap on.
He had no involvement in Castlevanias 1–3, or Super Castlevania 4 and Bloodlines. Every one of those games, except for Castlevania 2 are some of the most beloved games in the franchise. 3 and 4 in particular are legendary games that are arguably better than every game Iga worked on. Not saying that I don’t love Iga’s games mind you. I love most of the games he worked on. Just clearing up the obvious error in the new article.
I couldn’t disagree more about your comment about the classic series being poorly designed and masochistic. They were some of the most masterfully designed games, not only of their era, but really of all time. Where every single platform, every single enemy, was meticulously placed to be challenging but fair to the player. They were games that were built around intentional character limitations.
@00:03 – Of course it’s a matter of personal opinion. I don’t think anyone was trying to speak objectively. The only objective truth is that every game has its fans and you’re not the only one who feels like the classic games were broken and that Igavania are far better designed, but on the flip side there’s just as many people who prefer the classic series for multiple reasons and feel like Igavanias were too different or too soft. Iga himself has said that he absolutely hates instant-kill pits and would never use them, despite having loved the classic games.
That’s a matter of personal opinion. I grew up in the years the original Castlevania games were being released, and I felt like they were pretty poor games in terms of the game play. In particular, designing a game where enemy paths frequently knocked you into instant death pits if you didn’t know they were coming was a real fun killer. Some people love that masochistic type of design, I do not.
I loved that Symphony of the Night was more about reacting to the environment and type of enemy you were currently facing than having to memorize level layouts to avoid instantly dying. Aria of Sorrow is probably tied with that for my favorite game in the franchise, so for me, Iga’s designs are the Castlevania I loved, and the first few games were just growing pains that are best forgotten.
They’re loved too, yes, and each one has it’s share of fans consider them the best in the series, but for the majority of fans it has been SotN and Rondo for some time now (SotN especially because it’s like the Ocarina of Time of the series because of how it changed the series and sold the most, and also was the most critically acclaimed), which he started on… and since then the GBA and DS games he’s worked on have all consistently been highly rated, sold well, and loved by fans. That every game has its fans is a really awesome thing about the Castlevania series (yeah Castlevania 2 isn’t such a well made game but it still holds a special place in Castlevania fandom… it was just as awesome as the others in every way besides the gameplay, lol)
The character design and story is just simply amazing. Can’t wait for this game to come out!!!!
Actually my one and only problem so far is with Miriam’s hair-doo. I can’t stand it when any character has bangs that cover their entire forehead. Just plain irritating. I actually think I started hating that cuz of the infamous Bieber-doo. Other than that it all looks awesome.
