Episode 8 is still the best episode of the series but it's also controversial because of that Kumiko x Reina scene.
Yuri flags are not controversial in anime.
It's controversial to not have a yuri flag in an anime with girls :)
That episode becomes controversial because since that episode, yuri fans have increased their optimism on Kumiko and Reina pairing but there are some people who read the novel think otherwise. Obviously there are conflicts.
