There is is no way anyone who has read the manga could say that. Arise is nothing like the original Manga. Arise rewrote GITS to be a vastly more simplistic and sanitized version. Basically it was rewritten for dumb people who had trouble following plots and were intimidated by strong women.

What are you on? Are you sure you've seen SAC? Because if the only reason you like it is due to nostalgia then you either don't remember anything about it or haven't actually seen it. It's the closest anime adaption of the manga so far... Arise is the furthest.
wait, in the manga one of the main characters got killed on screen in chapter one and was alive without a word in the second chapter? because that is the kind of shit ARISE pulled between episode one and two, so I stick to my SAC, thank you very much.
If you think simply dying is enough to kill a character in GiTS, then you've obviously not understood the universe and missed a big glowing neon sign that GiTS waves to you about immortality.
Arise is not a bad series because of it's depictions or artwork, it's because the story arc doesn't provide anything fresh. However missing out on it because of some sick nostalgic fetishes regarding voice work etc is exactly what keeps the Anime industry stuck in an endless loop of self service.
Having supported Arise to some extent, at least I can say tried taking it to a new direction and...oh yeah the 5.1 audio is the best in the series yet.
Arise being "not that bad" is not good enough. Based on everything GitS that came before it, it has a lot to live up to. Why settle for less? If Arise isn't up to snuff I'll just stick with the manga, SAC, and the past movies.

Aside from some cut corners animation ARISE is great. It's different. The movie version's story is as over as it should be. Adding to that would be a terrible idea, let it rest. SAC too.
