Indeed. I stopped watching this anime during the first season. There's enough fucked-up shit in reality. I don't need it in the anime I watch.
I always laugh at how people say they don't watch the news because it's "boring" or "all doom and gloom", and then they go watch some messed up tv show that can't even hold a candle to real life.
News may or may not be boring and may or may not bee all doom and gloom. But what news are for sure no matter where you are is misinformation, and disinformation galore, more often than not coupled with propaganda and some shameless advertisements (and I'm saying articles that are advertisements or promotions, not actual tv ads between articles).
So, whether you want to waste your time on that, or some messed up tv show is your choice. I choose not to, I sometimes glance at newspaper headlines but that's about it. News aren't about reporting truth, they're about getting views and being paid for promoting something to change public opinion (like a political party that wants to win elections).
It's all shit, boring or not.
