Upcoming indie title Hatashiai has been attracting attention for its skillful simulation of Japanese swordsmanship, eliminating typical fighting game mechanics and focusing more on realistic swordplay, much in the same vein as Bushido Blade or Kengo – all bound to make for a unique experience, should it ever be finished.
A short PV of the game in its pre-alpha stage:
The development team states that the game still has quite a ways to go, but a release is still planned for the fall – those desiring to support Hatashiai can visit its official Steam Greenlight page.

meh, just bushido blade with faceless dolls
"Realistic" wouldn't be the word I want to use to describe the movements given here.
It's like having 2 mannequins swing rulers at each other, the body and the swords lack weight way too much.
They spent so much time trying to make a bishounen that they forgot that they're supposed to be making a game.
hostclub characters and lots of cherry blossoms, thats basically any japanese game
no wonders those fucking 11's dont sell shit in the west
That was pre-alpha for sure. It looks like they were testing graphics, models, and a few stances. The fight itself (if you can even call it a fight) was below evaluation. But you have to start somewhere!
"Realistic" may be overstating it a bit, but it is PRE-ALPHA footage and is even advertised as a tech demo. It's essentially just proof of concept, so cut it some slack.
This is just Bushido Blade but with more stances. Jesus, you can really rip off anything these days.
"This is just Bushido Blade but with more stances"
Sounds like an infinitely better game to me.
Bushido blade was only entertaining for one play session because every battle was the same. Start >Both run backwards, cycle around, press button quicker than other guy, win, rinse, repeat until even and nothing is proven.
Lol, sorry but this looks like shit. Pre-Alpha or not.
Main issue here is that the swords dont even seem to touch each other... Which is like the very minimum thing you'd expect to see in a game running on UE4
That's because, unlike the edge-blocking baseball bat shenanigans of Hollywood, in actuality this kind of sword rarely touches the other.
Didn't they test samurai blades against knight armor and it shattered basically? It's just for a totally different style of war/battle I think.
"Didn't they?"
Sounds like you don't even know what you're talking about :)
