Upcoming Fate/Apocrypha smartphone reboot “Fate/Grand Order” has revealed the new form of another of its staple classes, with the deadly Assassin now donning debonair clothing and stylish spectacles that are already leaving the title open to charges of courting the rotten contingent.

I don't really care if you call it "fujoshi bait" or whatever, Sammy Complex. But in all honesty, that character does not fit the assassin class. What is he? Someone from the time when Sherlock Holmes was still alive? Cause that face, and those clothes...by god those are some fashionable clothes from the 1800s (minus the modern day glasses)...
No, no, just no. I can't, I just can't. You mean to tell me he's an assassin? My mind is blown right now... I can't see that character in the ASSASSIN's light. And I can the same for the rest...
Why does Time matter? Assassin class is one of the most reasonable of the classes to find a suitable characters past the age of gods. They just have to be good at killing, where as Swordsman, Spearman, Mage, are all far harder to find as time progressed. All that matters is if the idea is good, like apocrypha Caster Being William Shakespeare.
he's jekyll and hyde, his noble phantasm is transforming into mr.hyde, it's dumb char
Well, the Hulk was initially based of of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, so I wouldn't count that as dumb. Though I would think he'd make a better berserker.
Except Hyde actually sucks at battle and killed like one person in his own canon.
So no, he's still a dumb idea.
In Fate/Prototype, he IS a Berserker... Anyone with the ability to hide his presence counts as an Assassin so that's why he's in that class I guess. In the main universe, only Hassan counts though.
They say assasin, they pick a bishonen, i see a poison lover from Sherlock Holmes books, or another "kuro shitsuji" (god no).
I cant wait until they make Hitler into a cute girl servant
Lol no!!! better a milf.
Yeah, complete with his signature stache.
Have fun.
Did a man break the owner of this sites heart so bad he started to hate men?
It seem no one beside me has a problem with they keep milking this series endlessly.
Well, that assassin doens't seem too bad. He looks like someone who would blend with the crowd. In the 1800s at least. :v
Well an assassin is someone that can also hide in plain view while carrying out their missions. They'll use a cover identity to blend into the crowd and track their target. So this just could be a cover identity disguising his true nature that we're seeing in this CM. He could be someone we're not expecting. In the world of intelligence, assassinations, and spies the best agents are the ones that nobody has heard of.
Why are people even making a fuss about this?
Its a shitty little IOS/Android game.
Chances are, it won't have any notable story elements to it, or anything that ties into Anything in the actual Fate-verse.
That being said. I actually like that Saber FINALLY looks different, granted kinda tired of the over sexualization of characters that really have no point in being sexualized.
mobile game = milking money
I'm sure you know this already, and what better way is there to milk money than sexualizing things that has no business in being sexualized.
Also, Fate ever since Extra had been more or less "I thought of this cool character, now let's slap a mythological/historical name on it" rather than centering the concept around an origin character anyway, so it's already been going on for a while.
I find it funny people are raging either at:
1) Sancom's definition of "fujoshi bait"
2) Why Jekyll is a dumb idea for a Servant(both by canon rule and by the character concept in itself).
Yet no one bats an eye at the characterization of (supposed) Minamoto no Yoshitsune who had been turned into shit Shiba Miyuki clone with identical seiyuu and character which entirely revolves around worshipping "oniisama".
Grand Order is basically Type-Moon's version on the KanColle/Touken bandwagon, and yet people are complaining that a good amount of characters are nothing but fanservice?
Btw. Awaiting JFK to be summoned into Archer class with Cold War as NP.
Only to be countered by Lee Harvey Oswald as assassin.
What about Lincoln, as berserker? I could totally see that working.
I like that Saber with her rave sword
To bad to is flat.
should've summoned ezio at least
So, every good looking male is "fujoshi bait" now?
I'll be downvoted to infinity for this, but that is just ridiculous.
They also like anime to an extend they have fantasies about characters in them, and yet instead of talking about hobbies together you antagonize them in a "no gurlz allowed in our clubhouse" way. No wonder otaku have a reputation of being bad with the opposite gender, if you're presenting the world with viewpoints like that.
Yes, I know they like yaoi. Yes, I know most here (including me) are kinda grossed out by that. Still no reason to act like that, condemning them for linking things you do not then going on to wine that nobody understands otaku.
You reap what you sow - have fun being "that creepy pervert that likes cartoons".
Good-looking male is one thing, but not only is the Assassin class supposed to only be accessible to those who are of Hassan-ibn-Sabbah's group (you know, the people who were called “assassins”), but the CM also doesn't present him as anything more than a “pretty boy” who is not really suited to the role of an assassin.
So yeah, as it is now, it's pretty much fujoshi bait. If future CMs show “Assassin” as someone actually suited to the role, it may change, but for now I have to agree with the title.
It's a rule that Hassan is Assassin, you know... Except in apocrypha, Extra, 2 routes in Fate, and Grand order. AN UNSHAKABLE RULE!
"Good-looking male is one thing, but not only is the Assassin class supposed to only be accessible to those who are of Hassan-ibn-Sabbah's group"
That rule only applies to Holy Grail war in Fuyuki. It is possible to have same war in other places with different rules.
" but the CM also doesn't present him as anything more than a “pretty boy” who is not really suited to the role of an assassin."
Zero Saber or Rider of Black are not "suited" for their classes either, but appearance of servant should not be issue.
"CMs show “Assassin” as someone actually suited to the role, it may change, but for now I have to agree with the title."
Guy is suppose be Jekyll and Hyde.
Any killer who acts for example silently or who is ever found qualify as assassin.

Personally I don't give a damn to the "only Hassan can be Assassin servant", because that kills much of the story's creative potentials.
That is not to say that Jekyll is still a very dumb idea though.
> Assassin class supposed to only be accessible to those who are of Hassan-ibn-Sabbah's group
Source?
Come on son/girl....there is more than anime and hentai on the internet....Wikipedia for example....here..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hassan-i_Sabbah
TIL that the the word "Assassin" isn't merely a catalyst for Hassan, so unaided summons will get Hassan be default.
TIL that F/A's assassins when catalysts were used don't exist.
TIL the Grand Order Assassin couldn't possibly have an alter ego hidden underneath the social demeanor like, I dunno, an assassin might have.
LOL>
He already appeared in another series prior to Fate/Grand Order. His identity is Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde so yeah... he does have an alter ego. And the look fits the character since he is supposed to be the respected, good-looking doctor.
Sasaki Koujirou was an Assassin class. Hassan's group is I believe the most suitable for Assassin, but isn't the only one who can access. A bad summoning can result in another hero in another class.
For instance Bluebeard or Gilles de Rais was actually noted to have been summoned in Caster, despite the class being unsuitable for him, much like how Koujirou was summoned into the Assassin class, despite being a better (likely) Saber class.
The classes in Fate are a container, only the compatibility the Heroic Spirit changes whether or not they should be that class for maximum effectiveness.
Likely the one here is another such case.
Nope, the guy who appeared to be Sasaki Kojirou was only there as Assassin because it was Caster (another servant) who'd summoned him via a loophole and thus there was a degradation. Because of this, a false heroic spirit got summoned, which means no real assassin could be summoned and she had to get something else.
Not “bad summoning” but rather “degradation”. “Bad summoning” is what Shirou had, what with Saber not getting prana from him.
I always figured summoning Sasaki permanently broke the mechanism that prevented people who weren't part of Hassan-ibn-Sabbah from being summoned as assassins.
The only canon is the original Fate/Stay Night visual novel and it clearly states that the only reason a non Hassan was summoned as an Assassin was because it was a flagrant perversion of the rules only possible because the grail is impure. And even then the fake Assassin was bound to Ryudou temple and clearly inferior to any servant worthy of that title, not even possessing a noble phantasm or being an actual hero, just someone associated to the legend of Kojirou Sasaki.
Extra and Apocrypha are not fucking canon in any way. They're both their own canons and in Extra there is no Holy Grail or Throne of heroes. Servants are replicated using the Moon Cell's gigantic pseudo computer memory which has records from all individuals in existence and thus can summon any individual if they have any aptitude for a servant class which is not the case for the canon Holy Grail.
As for Gilles being better as an assassin, the historical Gilles de Rais was rumoured to be a pedophile serial killer who was involved in sorcery and black magic and who killed for the sake of ritualistic magics. Caster is a perfectly viable class for him, although the integration of his character into Lovecraft's canon is an inspired one.
Let's be straight, there is no possible way in canon for Jekyll and Hyde to be a servant. The only servant to be based on a clearly fictional persona was Nursery Rhyme in Extra, which is a flagrant anomaly given that she wasn't even a being but rather akin to a reality marble personified and tied to someone who was a literal ghost in the system. This is why characters like Frankenstein and the like cannot be servants, they're fictional even in-universe.
how do you explain Jack the Ripper in F/A and Li Shuwen in Fate/extra?
i mean everything is kinda canon since there is 2nd magic
No, not every good looking male. Only fujoshi bait is called fujoshi bait.
Always good to see someone with brains
I'm with you. There's a gigantic difference between a show that merely features attractive male characters and one that actually contains overt homosexuality, but you wouldn't know it the way some fans (including more than a few here on SanCom) react.
