I haven't watched this series, so...
Has this series always been like this, or is it just growing older with the audience?
The series as basically always been like this. There is a little more fanservice in this episode but I'm sure it's an exception. Otherwise the series is the same.
However.
The first season starts quite differently, since it starts like your typical mahou shoujo series before making a turn into shounen fighter territory.
I love it. YOu should watch this from the beginning.
It used to be aimed at lolicons.
Now it's not anymore. That's all.
The characters are growing older indeed, at least those who get fanservice, while they are refusing to show loli sexualization.
But that's nothing new these days.
The lack of loli nipples is disturbing...
