Originality is a monumentally worthless concept in disposable entertainment, if an idea was good to begin with it will continue to be good after countless iterations as long as nobody haphazardly injects anything "original" into the mix. "Generic" means essentially nothing without context and says absolutely nothing about the quality of a series, i.e. a random generic 80's mecha, or 60's-80's mahou shoujo is still a great show, a generic cute girls SoL is nearly always a flawless masterpiece, a generic romcom or harem is nearly always always unwatchable, a generic post-80's mecha is almost always vomit-inducingly bad, etc. Personally I never really cared for the 90's battle-style mahou shoujo but I usually found it watchable up until Madoka took a shit into the mold, here's hoping it doesn't try that annoying wannabe-grimdark crap and at least makes a passing attempt at being an article of entertainment instead of jerking itself off.
And even if you totally avoid harem, romcom, and mecha you still typically have between 20-30 shows to watch a season.

I think the title was referring to the band, The Cars, which actually annoys me a little as I like The Cars and don't find them generic at all. Anyway can't quite tell about this show yet.

the closest thing to unique released this season is ore monogatari and that is thanks to the MC of that anime.
