MangaGamer have announced their intention of translating “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou” (a revamped version of the original game that also boasts a brand new arc) and release all of its chapters onto Steam one at a time.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou contains all 4 of the original question and answer arcs as well as Higurashi Rei’s 3 arcs, Hinamizawa Teiryuujyo, Higurashi Outbreak and a new exclusive arc entitled “The Kamikanshi Chapter” – while also sporting some fancy new graphics for its previously flipper-fisted characters, that can of course be reverted at the whim of the player.
The game’s ominous opening:
Chapter 1: Onikakushi will arrive on Steam May 15th, pre-orders can be made via MangaGamer’s website now for a 10% discount.

There isn't much incentive for me to read through this when I have already watched all seasons of the anime, and read the whole manga, because, well, this is mainly a mystery/story driven novel/game, so when you already know what's going on, it looses most of its punch.
The other thing this story has going for it (although it's not nearly as important) are all the cute mannerisms, gestures, and verbal tics from the girls (like Rena's extra "kana"'s, and Rika's "Nippaaah~"'s and "Mii~"'s etc), but since unlike the anime and many other VN's this doesn't have voices to supplement those, it ultimately doesn't feel worth it to someone like me.
For someone who is new to the story on the other hand, it would probably be pretty awesome to get into, and they could then still watch the anime (the first two seasons, because the rest is meh) afterwards.
You're missing out on more than you realize.
Yeah, that's why I'm saying there is really only one, true Higurashi VN - Matsuri (preferably Kakera Asobi extended version).
FULLY voiced, with much better, more anime-ish charades (not this original VN crap, sorry). Unfortunately for PS2 only and with slim chances to having it translated to english (and even if, then let's not forget about morons who would love to butch it by removing original voice acting and replace it by english one).
So a voiced version actually exists...Dammit, why couldn't they bring that over instead...
I think Mangagamer's ultimate goal is to Crunchyroll it, and I want that to happen. Bring in the classics so they can support the new ones coming out 'simulrelease' and then the visual novel community can expand a bit westward in a more legal and unified fashion so the market can expand and good ones can get supported in more than just japan. So I'll get it mainly for that reason. Same with Clannad.
there are a lot of scenes that did not make it to the manga , muich less the anime, wheterh or not those scenes are worth is another question; rika getting drunk, rena doing some heavy drugs with which she can't notice time going on, or noticing it too much, those did not make ti to the mangas... and a fucking 20 pages essay about opening boxes that somehow becomes about unwrapping candies
I liked the anime adaptation
Those backgrounds look really terrible and make me want to throw up.

"while also sporting some fancy new graphics for its previously flipper-fisted characters, that can of course be reverted at the whim of the player."
Fear not, you can give them flipper fists at a whim.
For a moment there I thoughts Higurashi had teamed up with the latex designers ''Westard Bound''.
