You still unlock costumes. But the DLC really is DLC this time (unless held back, which I doubt they just lock content for 2 years to release the Senra Kagura shit).
Rampant piracy came into existence and then the market got saturated by games. Then MMOs came into existence proving a perpetual form of income, however the market still existed for those who want a story/scenario to play. So they gave you options to pay for relatively pointless things and then made them good enough that you wish you would have it, and leave it to the mind of the viewer how worth it it is to them to pay the cost of coffee for an outfit for their favorite character. Evolution.

Whether you like it or not, it is what formed in the midst of the piracy times. Everyone hates hearing it, and always downvotes it, but I work in the industry, and I watched it happen. As PC gaming diminished and sales of the saturated market started reducing, the DLC concept came about. It's pretty simple really. Network connections and internet connections were probably the only things limiting it earlier when the decline began for the consoles. Note how when PC gaming was successful, DLC was not present. Once everything was connected, and the console market started feeling its expansion crushing itself by the weight of its own graphics, games needed more money to show profit for less investment.
Some do it right, others don't. Mass Effect's DLC I believe to be one of the best examples. A bit more expensive than most, but also contains far more to it.
So you can continue lying to yourselves all you want and think that DLC was not built in the piracy age. It's a mixed bag of those who do things that work and those who syphon money from consumers. Outfit packs are the throw-away, all you need to do is pander a bit with them and it's easy money for the work of one modeler, texture artist, and possibly a rigger to adapt some things.

None of them requires the payment for anything and the authors distribute their material for free ..
Charge for Dlc pack of skins and clothes for a game you paid and should have been included to the game (probably ready in the same release date?!)
The question is not only piracy but the pressure on the greedy softhouses to lower the price it was always abusive .. (why Steam is successful?)

the last gif is from the ps3 version. The ps3/xbox360 actually has better mods than pc currently. Though if it turns out that pc is easier to mod then that may change.
well, actually you can found pc modding tutorial on web, and with the basic photoshop it will easier to mod the texture. though i'm still waiting for ppl to mod game mode, arena and 3d model

I remember playing DOA 1 and there were so many costumes you could unlock that it kept me playing for hours. Games need to go back to that instead of charging for every little thing, it's getting stupid now.

KT needs to do something about the PC version. It may be stable is some rigs but it is a terrible port overall. No Soft Engine, extra stages, particles, achievements, etc. Even the unpatched Neptunia Re;Birth1 PC is better.
