Agreed, It's not Nagato. Her whole charming point is that she thinks and acts like a computer, so when she does show emotions, it's through great effort on both her and the MC. To describe Yuki, would be a steady and immovable rock, parting the streams of time, conscious, and emotions around her.
She is the only interface with emotions, all interfaces are stuck with a single "mood" state disregard of what they are thinking or doing. Asakura was stuck with that happy mood state doesn't matter if she was asking for a favor or trying to kill you. Nagato is stuck with that cold distant state even thought she is actually warm inside.
Also this Nagato is the one from the movie.
Nah, in my opinion, it makes sense that her character seems different from the movie. In the movie, Kyon pretty much shoves his way into the literature club so he garners a different reaction/treatment than in the anime. There was a flashback on Kyon helping Yuki with a library card or something, so different meetings resulted in different relationships and treatment.
I have the impression that the one from the movie was a shy and timid at first but opens up as she warms to you.

alt Yuki is shy and timid in the movie. This "new" illustration is more like a new 3rd version, even the VO plays her differently. Much higher tone + confident, the complete opposite of stoic normal and alt movie.

I am not bashing the show itself it looks VERY good, so get that out of your mind. I love the idea of a Yuki with emotions the Disappearance oh Haruhi was an interesting movie and I fell in love with the Yuki of that world, and pretty much started wanting a Kyon/Yuki thing.
Anyway. the whole thing with Aya Hirano, I do not get it really, maybe there is more to it, but I heard that she had a boy friend, and that tainted her image? She really needs to head some where else if the idea of her having a social life is such bad news. I actually like her cause of her talents not cause of some ideal of her.

The new art style is OK I guess, the eyes don't seem to be as far apart as they once were at lease, but taste in art is subjective.
The animation on the other hand seems to have taken a step back, (I think, it's been a while since I've seen it last) from the second gif from the bottom it seems there are fewer frames of animation. In the original that would have been far more fluid.

This studio is clearly incompetent, stupid or uneducated.
They forgot how Mikuru is supposed to resemble a loli (despite her large boobs), and gave her a mature fucking face with even bigger boobs than before.
Fail.
That's already given by original manga, where basically all the girls have much bigger breasts than their original counterparts. For example Haruhi is now nearly same level size as Mikuru.
Which is part of the reason that the spin-off isn't as good as the original.
Also, the lack of Kyon-based focus and narrative makes him come off as a lot more generic. Those who read the original know that there's a lot going on in the brain of his, but those who only watched this new series could be forgiven for writing him off as just another generic male love interest.
Probably because if we make it Kyon POV it's going to be about the same as Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi. Putting focus on the girls did nothing to reduce the number of snarks and facepalms he throws out.
But they are growing and maturing girls, their bodies are still developing towards full adulthood.
TLDR: Original flavor was more original and interesting.
