A trailer has finally been released for the fan-made tribute to the classic retro RPG series Mother, prosaically entitled “Mother 4” and allowing the obsessed western fandom a chance to witness what the game has to offer.
The trailer, rife with inspiration from the RPG’s predecessors:
While the series has been time and time again neglected by Nintendo despite innumerable pleas from both its domestic and international fanbase, they can at least look forward to playing a decidedly unofficial tribute – which may possibly even spark a response from Nintendo should it garner adequate acclaim, and possibly even one not involving a cease and desist.
The unofficial Mother 4 is said to be due a summer release.
no video?
I play Mother 3 fan translation while ago- The graphic is old schooled, has interesting story and remarkable quote to remember… But gameplay is kinda boring…
everyone saying Nintendo will do a c&D on them- Nintendo said as long as they don’t sell the game for a profit they can make fangames.
The same Nintendo that have fucking split personality that repeatly support certain fan made game then shut it down last minute and wasted everyone’s resource and time?
That Nintendo?
Looks…interesting…
The Mother games are pretty bad and this seems to continue the trend. I guess there’s a reason Nintendo have ignored it.
If you like this stuff, knock yourselves out.
Typical asshole SanCom comment. Not only do the popular stuff get s♥♥t on here, but the cult classics do too. Even the little guys. I wouldn’t expect any better from here. Don’t just spew cynocal/edgy nonsense, at least back it up. At the time of its release, Earthbound was like nothing else before it. It turned the RPG style on its head. It manages to present a dark story in the most light hearted manner possible without compromising it in the slightest. You’d never think such a cheerful looking game could bring a truly heartfelt tear to so many gamer’s eyes. I was personally blown away by it as a kid, as I know almost everyone else who played them was. It’s idiotic to not see the game as influential. Does that count for nothing? Or does everything ever made have a 10 year expiry date before it because just another lame thing?
tasteless clod.
Now be nice. I’m sure this person has their reasons, though I’d be curious to hear what they are.
Personally, while I too am a fan of the series, I could see why some might be turned off by it. For one thing, I think the series gets way too much hype for having a modern setting instead of medieval fantasy. I’d blame at least some of this on the fact that RPGs were a niche market in the west during the ’90s, so our selection was somewhat limited (Megami Tensei, a game set in modern Tokyo, was already out a good couple years before the first Mother game). Besides which, to the original Japanese audience, it’s still not necessarily relating to the audience as the game serves as an exaggerated view of suburban America. And if you take away the theme, all you’re really left with is more or less a primitive Dragon Quest clone (albeit, it still sports some unique mechanics such as the rolling HP counter). So yeah, good series, but I think it’s overhyped just a bit.
There is Gokinjo Boukentai, kindergarten girls in modern setting RPG.
