Japan loves censorship almost as much as the Chinese
At what point does this type of censoring actually hurt sales. If it becomes unwatchable, then people stop watching and may even forget about it by the time the Blu-ray comes out. I have to wonder if anybody in the industry is even thinking about this, or maybe it's all just government BS. Hell, you can't even get uncensored hentai anymore because the Japanese blurracrats are worried that the uncensored versions done for overseas sales will make it back to the domestic Japanese market. God forbid a Japanese citizen sees uncensored vaginas, their head may just explode. Pun intended.
Not really. Shows like that target the pervert ones, and they'll know, that if it's too hardcore for TV airing, then the BD will be good for them.
Also it's still better if the show full of censors like that, than doesn't drawing even a exposed nipple just to become all ages for the purpose of age limit on TV airing.
It's all in the business model. These guys know what they're doing. The proof is that more shows continue to get made. so there must be money in it. Folks who aren't in Japan get frustrated with the model because they don't see all the factors the producers have to deal with. As an example, the biggest factor they have to work around is that the don't get paid for showing their stuff on tv. All the money they make is from disk sales.

It will and it does. The hard-hardcore fans will buy the BD regardless. The hardcore fans will think a bit but buy eventually. You can't change that. However, it's the potential fans that will be put off especially if its a mediocre show.
Convenient censoring is one thing. Intrusive is another. The same applies to shows that are shoddily delivered onto TV.

Yes it is done to encourage BD sales. I just think that if it is this intrusive that it might end up losing them sales due to people dropping the series all together.
Also, considering the recent lack of additional "content" (actual nudity, nipples, decent animation) in BD releases, it's a wonder anyone even bothers buying them.

this was the hardest episode to watch...i mean come on... holy shit.
I don't even know what I was supposed to be watching because I couldn't see anything.
After the first ep of this I thought it was way too good to watch censored so decided to wait for the BDs.
Turned out to be a good call. Starting to feel pretty smug about it.
There's a reason why I started to stay away from ecchi series.
Especially after they started to pull a gurren lagan with their BDs and the expected uncensored scenes are either completely removed or still censored.
What is this censorship BS?!
This show sucks.
I dislike how they make a spectacle of how unique they can make censorship. It would be acceptable to me if it was sort of a touch and go censorship, but this is almost like a show in it's self.
The manga is great, but if they don't lighten up on censorship on the BD release I'd wonder why they even made the anime adaption in the first place.
I pray that the new season of High School DxD coming soon won't be like this.

Recently BD's have been less and less about Clean, uncensored episodes, and more about just getting your money.
Not to mention even BD's still have censorship in it.

Honestly, you lived with closed eyes in the past years? Nowadays nearly all ecci stuff and like that got censored, since someone found that it'll boost BD sales.(Also it's much easier too to air on TV censored stuff.)
