Thrilling space anime Sidonia no Kishi has unveiled its “main” PV for its upcoming movie, providing a hefty minute and a half long montage of intensely dramatic scenes sure to be taken completely out of context for the sake of boosting viewer anticipation – as is the case with most movie trailers.

The movie will act as a recap for the first season’s 12 episode run and will contain a few new scenes to keep existing fans from feeling too cheated – it is due to hit Japanese theaters in March.

I agree, but man, how I would like this to be released in the West. Hard sci-fi cg cell-shaded movie could get a lot of publicity.
It should be licensed for being hard-scifi at all. Way too few space anime in that genre that I'm aware of. Only other true examples that come to mind being Planetes, Moonlight Mile, Starship Operators, Rocket Girls, and Gunbuster...
It is licensed. NetFlix is distributing the anime subbed and dubbed and Vertical has the manga.

Something being hard sci-fi in literature is largely determined by how "real" it feels. The incredibly convincing rendition of large objects in orbit as seen from the Earth, cosmologically plausible battlefield sizes and engagement ranges (the anti-thesis to typical high-sf crap like Star Trek), frequent and prominent attention to scientific details like red/blueshift, and the story largely built around the only hard-sf element that really matters (general relativity) seal the deal.
The ether hardly matters here. It didn't refer to the ether of classical physics, and it makes as much sense as any other form of FTL, like hyperspace. FTL alone isn't enough to disqualify something from being hard-sf, as NASA's recent decision to include FTL drives as "plausible" in their 100-year starship project aptly demonstrates.

How to make a movie out of anime : Edit all previously released episodes together for 30 min of work and release them, profit. Disgusting double dipping japs.
