After all, they're not supposed to be professional building architects first.
Now Kancolle is getting more look like Yuri Kuma Arashi. Those poor girls are getting killed tragically. Unlike Strike Witches, I never heard a single witch get killed. At least it's not gory.
So the abysmals are actually Americans? After Kisaragi gets killed in episode 3 we have the Wake Island scenario playing out.
No and Yes. The ABYSSALS are a conglomerate of ships that have already sunk. Some are Japanese, some are American, and there are many others from other countries. They're basically ship zombies. (hell a few of them are WWI era ships)
America and Europe have their own Kantai Fleets fighting the Abyssals as well.

what happens in the anime IS very similar to what happened to the kisaragi at wake....in real life the ship was sunk by an F4F wildcat who's bomb hit the destroyer's depth charges as it was trying to leave the battle zone, creating an explosion that sank the ship with all hands.

Not exactly the same but they just slightly modified the real place.
And once again 2D win against 3D
2D is always the idealized version. That's why in thoses cases it's always better looking, for any honest person.

The naval base was actually a big reason the U.S. selected Hiroshima for the first nuke. It was one of the last Japanese military installations that hadn't already been bombed into rubble.
They planned to drop the second one on Kyoto but changed the target to Nagasaki after it was decided that Kyoto was a city too important to the Japanese for its history and of too little military value to be wiped off the earth.
coincidentally the core target was a bridge which still stood after the bomb, along the base.
Kisaragi dies in Ep 3. But the explosion exposes some underwear so I guess for Japanese otaku it's a win.
How fitting, dying early as the real Kisargi was sunk 4 days after pearl harbour.
