I liked Idolm@ster better than Frontier.

How is Macross an idol anime? I thought it's more like Gundam with interstellar travel to it.
Macross has always had an idol heroine that provides the music and shit and is beloved by many. You can't call yourself a Macross fan if you don't know that.
The main character(s) are usually idols. It's about music + space fighting, an the music aspect is with idols. It's not just about idols like some of the others listed, but there's enough of it there.
