Nekomimi Cans “Way Too Cute!”

California startup Axent Wear have announced that pre-orders are now available for their highly desired nekomimi headphones, sure to appeal to those keen to flaunt cute cat-ears whilst listening to their favorite tunes.
The cat-ear headphones were part of an IndieGoGo campaign, requesting a tribute of a meager $250,000 for production – though the headphones proved much more popular than expected, as the campaign ended up garnering about $2.9 million in funding.
The headphones (aside from boosting the cuteness levels of those that wear them) also contain LED lights to better accentuate the wearer, while the cat-ears themselves incorporate working speakers – helpful for irritating all around to the utmost extent.

The headphones can be pre-ordered via Axent Wear’s IndieGoGo page for $170 and can be expected to arrive April – though they can also be pre-ordered from Domore for $250 to arrive in September.

I couldn't care less about headphone advertisements, I want sound quality, look is meaningless beyond functionality and comfort. In fact everything about the first minute and a half made me trust that their quality will be less than expected.

Design, MEH. IDK about the sound quality. I believe another pro companies, like AKG, Sennheiser, or Sony could do a better design (and obviously world-apart sound quality). Also the speaker function is unnecessary.
These headphones have cat ears. Yes, their selling point must be the sound quality. This is why people want them.

To be honest, of all things, I am waiting for all the people who ordered it to tell me that the range of these headphones aren't really all that good. The in-ear headphones that I got with my phone have the same range, and honestly, it's ok, but not magic or something.
Besides that, nowehere on the indiegogo or anything were any specifications about the outer speakers, so I'm not expecting much of those either...
This thing is so ridiculously expensive I seriously can only laugh at people who got them because it's so dumb.

Yuumei (the designer of the headphones) published artworks of these cat ear headphones before SeeU was out.
First of all, these guys dropped the bomb that their factory in china was unethical and that they have to find a new factory THE DAY AFTER THEIR INDIGOGO finished. For them to be taking more preorders now and asking for more money is suspicious. I highly recommend you wait to see if they deliver on the original funders before jumping in.

Yes, she's the main designer for the project. Wenqing Yan, the woman with glasses in the video, is Yuumei.
IMHO she made a mistake by associating her name to this. Also, I think most of the funding came to exist because of her public support - she's one of the most popular artists on deviantart (and talented).
Aside from the grosly overpriced msrp, the design just reeks of cheap quality and caters to that niche weeaboo crowd. I dont think a sane normal person would wear this, let alone spend that kind of money on a set of headphones from a startup company.
Seems cute, but it's standing out too much. Also I'm concerned about sound quality of this thing, doubt it'll be any good. $170? Nope! For outdoor usage I'll grab some on-ear closed back or IEMs, for home listening, well... you can get for ex. AKG Q701; for $250 with decent DAC/amp.
People that buy fashion statement type headphones (i.e. Beats) would know good sound is like. Just give them a headphone with lots of heavy loose uncontrolled bass and they would think it is awesome.
