Cute and sexy does not have to come at the expense of not using your brain to at least give more depth to characters rather than have them say their basic same gimmick(poi/nighttime/idol) over and over for 50 times to the point they are obnoxious.
This show has way more budget than an average anime, so I would expect it to be more than average in other ways too from what your typical "show panties, bath scenes and bouncing boobs then call it a day" fanservice anime.

Looks like this becomes my no.1 anime this season. I watch it for fun, not searching tiny faults in animamtion.

You know what? You are right. For a show based on a franchise who has one character who is universally known, that character has not been a significant focus of the show at all. Who honestly knew who many but 3 of the girls who got major airtime were. It's like someone did something with Vocallid, but made Miku a background dancer.
The Anime is based on the Game which is based on WW2 Japanese ships.
Shimakaze was the culmination of the Japanese concept of the Destroyer, being fast and possessing a massive torpedo broadside. Unfortunately she was never able to effectively be utilised due to the dominance of the USN. And was too expensive to be replicated to be influencial.
Fubuki may have possessed a similarly unflattering career, but it was the first of a revolutionary class of destroyers that was to spearhead early Japanese naval victories. Also being a fairly old and obsolescent, it allows for the anime to have an actual plot centring around the development of a mediocre destroyer into a escort for a fleet carrier.
The alternative, replaying the history of the Japanese navy in WW2, would make an anime more tragic then Grave of the Fireflies.
If you want a tragic KanColle anime, take Shigure's story.
Squadmates get ambushed by American destroyers in night battle. Only survivor.
Gets assigned to another unit, sails to Surigao Straight, were they're attacked by a large American fleet that include six battleships(!!)

While its true its cheaper to animate a cheap school life show or a slice of life show, shows like this can have a decent budget behind them, even with cute girls. It all comes down to have much standards the studio making the anime has. If they want the show to look decent they'll invest the money.

The fight scenes are 'fire torpedoes and big f-ing guns' plus maneuvering around trying to avoid getting shot. It's never going to be live-action-level kung-fu scenes.
Amatsukaze is a relative latecomer and was probably not around when the anime was in development. As much as I like Amatsukaze (in fact she's my favourite ship in the whole series), I have to accept that she won't be here unless there's a season 2.
Besides, the whole series is about Torpedo Squadron 3, and more specifically, Fubuki anyway.

Keep the censors and watch the anime sell next to nothing on BD/DVD. You don't put censors in a show and expect it to sell with them in tact. Infact any form of censorship should be boycotted.
