Straight from the latest Nintendo Direct has come word of a brand new entry into the Fire Emblem franchise for the 3DS entitled “Fire Emblem IF”, sure to be bursting at the seams with more of the classic SRPG elements the series has become synonymous with – though perhaps with new mechanics and ideas likely to be in scant supply as usual.
The thrilling trailer:
No information concerning features or what the game’s story will focus on has been made available, nor even the significance behind its peculiar name – though surely it will only be a matter of time before such revelations come to light, along with a proper release date.

Huh, so the game uses more asian culture now?
And as I do love some 3D Fire Emblem, I actually miss the flashiness of sprite battlers being quick with their attacks. Swordmaster's smug evasion and critical hits, Assassin's teleporting crits, Heroes' Aethers like it was nothing. General's mech-like chained lances.
And Myrmidon's overkilling critical hit animation, my personal favourite.
Agreed, the sprite art for fire emblem was extremely well done and one of the more impressive elements about FE. It lost a lot of magic after it went cg
Totally. Lyn's critical animation was epic. She was definitely the best swordmaster in her generation, although a bit of an exp hog since she just keeps killing and killing, like dammit Lyn leave some for the rest of the party will ya.
The most impressive animation to me is the Bishop's A-rank spell. I never get tired of seeing those columns of light and that tractor beam finisher which looks like someone got nailed by a laser cannon from space.
Best class was the Archer, though. Rebecca was freaking invincible if leveled. Nothing could ever hit her, nothing! I tried one of my overpowered teams in arena mode against her and nothing would ever hit her. Speed 30 and Luck 30 are a force to be reckoned with xD
Base Stats of Falcon Knights are too low. They're only good for getting somewhere fast. I had a Falcon Knight with Fili Shield and most Stats maxed fight against Rebecca and Rebecca just obliterated the Falcon Knight. (As I said, nothing could ever hit Rebecca.)
what about a falcon knight with Fili Shield? that sure is OP.
Well, they actually introduced an "asian" like country in Awakening, Chon'sin with their Swordmaster princess Say'ri. But they never expanded on it.
They should just go back to sprites and continue the great GBA games,... maybe give us a prequel about the 8 great heroes from back then, with Athos, Bramimond, etc.
That would be epic.
Looks like they finally added feet to the models now. Hooray!
I hope it has some Mass Effect/Dragon Age-style save state carry-overs, like all the decisions you made back in Awakening affects the events of IF.
Hopefully Fire Emblem IF wont have fake choices like awakening did.
Want to save the queen?
Want to save the country? Want to live?
All the choices basically amounted to nothing since the story is going to play out the same, no matter what, and the choices you are given don't change anything other than maybe 2-3 lines of texts.
I always hated it when I wanted to choose something and the game told me "No, you cannot do this." Especially frustrating if later it turns out that it was the wrong choice to make. Like in Danganronpa, where you could choose to lie or to not lie but you had to lie anyway.
Fire Emblem: Total War Shogun
Fire Emblem makes fun, but it's kinda like Disgaea means Gameplay-Wise it's always the same which kinda get's booring fast for me.
I always enjoy SRPGs regardless of samey gameplay. Some people enjoy buying their yearly COD and GALO. I rather play SRPGs.
...and I just play the same games over and over again. If a game isn't good enough to beat it at least 30 times it wasn't worth it's money.
If it were like Disgaea then it would NOT be boring because Disgaea is simply a cut above the rest in terms of gameplay. Destructable battlefield, geo effects etc. Some maps actually involve strategy to get the most out of them. Fire Emblem is just checking your enemies movement range and staying 1 square out of it. Mow enemy down on your turn, repeat. Difficulty comes only from unforseen reinforcements in WTF locations. FE lives from epic stories and unlockable character relationship talks.
The game is looking pretty cool. I'm liking the Samurai elements.
I played 2 FE on GBA and loved it!!
In the first place I got myself a 3DS for Awakening, so I'm waiting for the european release!!!
Like some anons said earlier, the latest FE lacks the awesome animation of special moves present in the previous games, I hope they will be reintroduced!!
Making the Dancer unit a central character (as they seem to be trying for)
Will be great for tactical combat and cheese alike.
This looks amazing. But… where is our Advance Wars sequel? ._.
Advance wars didn't "click" enough with Japanese audiences so they will most likely ignore it now.
fire emblem IF we decide to go through with it.
So did they just drop the crossover with Shin Megami Tensei?
