Sports fanatics have recently ranked what they believe are the most influential sports anime and manga, which has included titles both new and old for once – though the sheer maniacal popularity of Kuroko’s Basketball causes it to dribble into the lead.

Kuroko’s Basketball over Slam Dunk? This is wrong in so many levels.
IKR? How is a series more influential than the one who influenced it? Like really. Slam Dunk put basketball in the Japanese peoples' minds. :)
It's Kuroko's Mystical Powers, FYI.
none of them pretty boys have yet to meet sakuragi's fist.
So.. Where fuck is the most important anime of all the time? "Ashita no Joe", thousands of animes/mangas show things of this manga even 45 years later, DON'T FUCK WITH ME
What does a sport anime influence?
The girl from Haikyuu influences my penis.
influences otaku to imagine they'll be doing some sport, someday, somehow. which have 99% failure rate across the globe.
XDXDXD the fucking true.
Memes.
influences you to ask stupid questions like this..
giant killing is by far the best one on the list, the rest is pretty much shounen bait, i'm op i carry my team kinda of crap.
yup. I'm right there with you.
Anyone from Latin America here? Is there anyone who recognizes Captain Tsubasa as Los Supercampeones? Man, Spanish dubs were the best.
I recognised that.It was a global phenomenon not only in Latin America but in some European countries. In fact,i have some old copies translated in French,Italian even in German.Probably young Messi or Ronaldo had read a copy or two.Its anime series had so many different languages dubbed than any anime.
>Captain tsubasa on 7
Sigh
I still wish Taishou Baseball Girls had gotten a second season: it was a perfect anime combination of cute girls' slice-of-life and high school and sports and period piece (1920s).
I really wish they would add a rule forbidding voting for any title that finished airing in the past 5 years. You can never tell an classic or influential work until time has passed.
A lot of the choices on that list are only there due to being recent and will not show up on a similar list 10 years from now. While some of the older ones will still be there.
No Chihayafuru, GG sancom.. >_<
I remember Captain Tsubasa, I watched that classic when I was still a sperm cell.
Technically Initial D is a 'sport' anime. It should no.1 for recognition alone.
I find this list to be so typical of 12 year olds. Giant Killing was so incredible but always ranks so low. That's fine, I don't mind.
I wouldn't want mainstreamer idiots in my circles at any rate.
Missing so many, Moshidora, Overdrive etc.
kuroko before slam dund? ro-kyu-bu??
Is Moshidora really a sports series, though? Been a while since I saw it, but I recall it being more of an economics edutainment anime that just happened to use sports as a backdrop.
Anyone here know any ice hockey anime? I'm a Canuck
Such a thing doesn't exist. But in a couple of episodes from ranma 1/2 they played on the ice.. only it was more fighting and less hockey.
Chihayafuru don't count?
hikaru no go too. board games are also sports!
Ha! In that case should we add Yu Gi Oh and Beyblade as well? How about Saki?
No. Besides a board game is only a sport if they are measuring actions or frequency. (So add speed in front and its valid I guess).
Obviously you have never watched Hikaru no Go as there is a countdown timer per move for competetive play in Igo. There goes your argument
He said board games, not mystical cards or toys.
Where is my Bamboo Blade?
in your butt
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!!!!! Kuroko no Basket is up and Slam Dunk is second? What the fuck is this shit!!?? KnB has nothing, NOTHING! to be compared to Slam Dunk!!! My day is ruin! (read it with Stewie's voice)
Why no "Suzuka"
Damn dude. That's an obscure oldie. And that there is the problem. It's an obscure romance where sports set the stage. It is nowhere near the level of any of the other shows details or elaboration.
Obscure oldie?
Touch like 30 years old now.
At least Suzuka was exported. Never mind they only export crap.
WHAT!?! how is Eyeshield 21 not higher than these?? it was more epic than most. It should be at least on the top 5.
was Free! seriously influential or are these fujoshi rankings with Kuroko, Free! and Yowamushi Pedal so high up
Eyeshield 21 min 3 rank
this list is a nono without nononono
Ping-Pong no where in sight. THANK GOD!
It's good that Touch is on the list, but the placement is a problem.
H2 is more about sports than Touch, if we're talking about sports. If we're talking about story and characters, Touch must be in first place, IMHO.
We're talking about influence. I discovered Adachi through Touch, and read or watched nearly everything of his thereafter.
Yeah. Personally I consider Cross Game a better story, but I can't deny that Touch is significantly influential (and should be higher on the list).
Even "Ro-Kyu-Bu" here, seriously? And no "Hikaru no Go"?
Quoting RKB phrases praising JS became a trend all over Japan, so it actually was somewhat influential...
do you consider chess a sport perhaps?
Hikaru no Go was pretty stupid. He had this awesome ghost but was like "No, I want to play by myself." This show would have been so awesome if the kid had just let the ghost play and did something else, while playing grandmasters or something. "Yeah... I don't even need to look at the board while playing against someone like you." xD
