American Anime Virgins: “Is Avatar Anime?”

A recent video from internet sump BuzzFeed has showcased the reactions of a few Americans witnessing anime for the first time, garnering over a million views in the process and proving to be a rather irritating watch for experienced fans, whilst reinforcing some uncomfortable stereotypes about the intellects of average Americans.
The “anime virgins” were subjected to glimpses from “Shingeki no Kyojin” and “Kill la Kill“, massively popular shows of vastly differing genres:
This unsurprisingly provoked an enormous variety of excruciating comments further emphasizing the point- more observant viewers however have noticed the mention of Sailor Moon despite the participants (and the video) clearly stating that they have never watched anime before…

The woman looks like your typical "THIS OBJECTIFIES REAL WOMEN" feminist.
Is it just me or do the internet feminists all have neon colored hair?
Not all, there are many people with neon hair who are good human beings.
It's just that there's some overlap between being the scourge of mankind and being an attention whore, so feminists are more likely to be visually annoying.
No but neon colored armpit hair since recently.
Real feminists have whatever hair color they want, and dress however they want.
You really LOOK for those things?
The only solution is to remove all women from games, animes, tv series, etc. so that they can't whine about any form of objectifying or whatever feminism bs they manage to invent.
If claiming it's discrimination then a simple "We suck too much to bring women into this creation without causing some form of upheaval".
Dude, is she a Zoey impersonator?
I recommend "Boku no Pico" for new Anime watchers...
^
dis faggot
thanks, I had long forgotten about that shit
Is there scat in it?
there's ice cream, you can think of that as white poop.
Overreacting people as usual…
It's like giving jam to pigs.
They would make good actors in a jdrama.
Casting pearls to swine, perhaps?
Same meaning, it's probably just the literal translation of the french slang "donner de la confiture aux cochons"
BS, none reacts like this, totally staged stupid video.
There is a huge diffeerence on how people react when they know a camera is recording them, and when there is none(or they do not know) :)
buzzfeed has a video on how much men know about vaginas in the video most of the "men" admit to being gay. yes it is staged but buy the media company them selves trust nothing on the internet especially youtube it mostly all propaganda just look at the front page of YT
you definitely don't know allot of people. XD
Never watched anime before, yet they are identifying some scene as like DBZ. On top of that they don't really give them a very through look at other anime.
I call this a bull shit test.
Can clearly see the feminist in the group. "That scissor is a metaphore for something sexual"..... Like what the fuck kinds of retard is that?
clearly that bitch wants some attention
as expected of a bitch
A retard who never used scissors for anything non-sexual.
Funny thing is, it actually is though. She's not wrong there. KlK is filled with sexual metaphors.
It's like the only thing that isn't a metaphor for something sexual. It's just part of the ongoing clothing/tailoring theme. She could have picked almost literally anything else and it could have been a sexual coming of age thing.
actually this anime takes much satire about the sexual things and is on purpose as much as non sexual, so i dont think it stands for anything extra sexual.
If scissors is a methaphore... well... scissors cut... A woman with the power of castration. Not a giant pines.
Of course it's 'bullshit', this is a youtube video designed to invite 'haters' to watch the video, comment and retweet.
Make no mistake, you've all made this guy rich.
Yep, and the same goes for Sankaku.
Considering awful americanization of anime like DBZ, I wouldn't be surprised Americans doesn't know it's anime. Or know it's japanese cartoon, but doesn;t know it's called anime. Generally anyone knows Sailor Moon or DBZ, even those who didn't watch it.
It's like Justin Bieber - you don't need to listen to his sonsg to know who he is.
What was Americanized about DBZ? "Over 9000" and "Rock the Dragon" are two of only a few things I can think is Americanized about the US DBZ broadcast. It's largely kept in tact, and what's been censored is available elsewhere (like on DVD/Blu-ray) totally uncensored and unmolested.
To put it briefly: what are you talking about?
Anyone can read the credits of an anime and realize that it is most likely not made by Americans.
"HFIL", frothy mugs of water, frothy mugs of tomato juice...there was plenty of editing and "sanitizing" for the first American TV run of DBZ.
Funimation has since got their head out of their ass and gone from a company that altered and edited and occasionally butchered shows for American audiences to, overall, the best quality American distributor, though. Including releasing unaltered DBZ, so, I forgive them. :P
Yeah, that censoring was years ago, because DBZ was running as a Saturday morning cartoon for the US. I can't blame them, because some people are so Puritanical in the US, they think that if kids see nudity, sex, drinking alchohol, gay romance, etc, they will IMMEDIATELY emulate it.
US broadcasts have to be on thin ice, or special interest groups will try to scare their advertisers.
I'm not talking about memes and viral videos from DBZ. I'm talking overallly about editing existing show. They changed background music to some stupid american noises. Censored some scens. Voice actors souds like brute alcohol addicts. Not to mention accent making it sound even more stupid.
If you're American, then you'll not notice it due to your own stupidity. For European person it just hurts ears to listen.
By "americanized" I mean making it more suitable for american mindset of being superior nation. Men must be buffed and shout their voices military style and women described as stupid blondes going easy to bed.
Who? Never heard of.
Funny enough now that you mention it I actually never have heard a Justin Bieber song before.
Though to be fair I never listen to the radio, know zero tweens and I'm not into his type of music at all anyway so avoiding him has been easy for me so far.
Never heard a Bieber song before either. And don't care. He makes money - good for him. Fsck the jealous w@nkers. He's a kid and he sings for kids. Only a kid would take offense.
Baby baby baby baby baby ohhh!
Pretty sure it is this...
that 'kid' posed for a male model magazine this month, has countless speeding tickets and other lame issues that piss of his neighbors with children, and has been on video calling clinton a itch while peeing in a mop bucket or some such nonsense
Bieber, is impossible you didn't hear her sing by now
I live in Sweden, i have now read of JB, never heard his "music" though. We have here our own "stars" who produce to that crowd which never chooses themselves what music they listen.
I most definitely select my music, i have broad taste from classical music from many time periods, to jazz and rock of all genres. I play jazz and some rock styles from surf to metal.
I dont listen mindless schlager at all, and i am not a young woman with easily wetted panties.
Then again, “anime” are “animated series”, or as some people mistakenly call it, “cartoons”. That they are Japanese matters not, it's just people outside of Japan who arbitrarily decided that the term only applies to Japan-made stuff.
Disney and Looney Tunes are considered "anime" in Japan.
Maybe they think DB is not anime but something genuinely American. If they like something, it must originate from America.
I like America and many things there is, but as it is with my home country Sweden, i see also what is not so likeable.
No,I think the opposite is true, more often. I think that there are American fans of anime who think that if they like something, it must be anime. Like Avatar. People continue to accept it as anime because of its Asian trappings, and because it is good, and emulates anime, then it is anime. "Cartoons" are inferior to them.
Hell, if you showed them stuff like Sazae-san or Crayon Shin-chan (which are way more popular than any other anime) they wouldn't even guess it's Japanese.
Obviously Maya (1975) isn't anime. It's a co-production with Europe. Like The Last Unicorn was a co-production with the US. Only the animation was done by Japanese.
Or maybe you want to make the point that The Last Unicorn is an anime, because it was made by the Ghibli guys (Topcraft) before they started the popular studio, just like Nausicaa. Except they did Nausicaa on their own.
And then there are pretenious BS purists who will tell you that Maya the Bee (original series) is not anime either....
