A recent video from internet sump BuzzFeed has showcased the reactions of a few Americans witnessing anime for the first time, garnering over a million views in the process and proving to be a rather irritating watch for experienced fans, whilst reinforcing some uncomfortable stereotypes about the intellects of average Americans.
The “anime virgins” were subjected to glimpses from “Shingeki no Kyojin” and “Kill la Kill“, massively popular shows of vastly differing genres:
This unsurprisingly provoked an enormous variety of excruciating comments further emphasizing the point- more observant viewers however have noticed the mention of Sailor Moon despite the participants (and the video) clearly stating that they have never watched anime before…
They should have shown them more entry level anime, like: FMAB or Death Note, instead of Kill la Kill. If you ae not used to the ridiculous over-the-top action that anime has, kill la kill is sure to confuse you
Can’t they give them something better than Shingeki no Kyojin? I mean really it’s just good looking art and animation wise everything else is pretty much garbage.
Dunno whats meant to be so interesting about this video, I expected a bunch of misinformed idiocy but they reacted pretty well.
Remember they’re not anime fans. If you show the average ‘normie’ pretty much any s♥♥t on an average sankaku article they’re gonna think you’re a pedophile or worse, so the fact that they were mostly positive was actually surprising.
No one really had a negative reaction – even the women reacted more positively to the half-naked girls in Kill La Kill than the average guy on Sankaku reacts to Free!…and the average guy on Sankaku -is- an anime fan, so thats pretty sad.
WTF are you people on about? Those reactions were normal and measured, even defying expectations with how neutral leaning towards positive they were.
As always with YT, the most irritating thing about this are the comments.
Yeah, considering they obviously went for shock and negativity they were probably disappointed with the results.
Sure, because you had nothing else better to do…
