Live2D have unveiled a new video showcasing the latest version of their oft used Live2D Euclid software, which allows for a much smoother transition of 2D drawn graphics into a 3D environment – most commonly utilized for visual novels, but soon to have wider gaming and anime implications it would seem.
The video demonstrating Live2D Euclid, which currently runs within game development program Unity:
The program has been available since 2009, though only recent upgrades have seen it able to actually render the 2D at a full 360 degrees rather than just the previous 30 – allowing the program to be used in a multitude of new ways, such as for full-3D games or even with the Oculus Rift.
This would be more awesome if they use live motion models for a more realistic Live2D. Imagine a well detailed illustration using this with motion capture? Damn!
I get this strange feeling that it will be a long time before we can experience it’s true potential, but at least we have a start.

AFAIK Nekopara uses something very similar so I’m not sure if it’s Live2D Euclid. But either way it looks very good.
