I don't think most people care much about the main character(s). We like the story line and the idea of the universe. That is as simple as that. If you have read the manga, it is mostly about how humanity (in the story) can survive, not really focus on the main character. The main character (aka Eren) only serve one purpose and if you have read the latest manga, you will know what I am talking about. There is actually main character anymore after season 1 as you will see it focus on almost everyone, I assume you have read the manga. He didn't say anything about Eren, so please... stop act like Chinese communists or ISIS or whatever extremist group you are in.... Jesus Christ. He simply said he does not care about levi. Nothing more, nothing less.

Actually, 'opening your mind' seems to be the problem here. Anime and certain webcomics have done a nice job at tricking people that their characters are more than what they really are. You take a generic, cardboard character and make them do 'cool' things in substitution of characterization. The viewers don't actually realize they have no personality, because they fill that void on their own with their dumbass headcanons. That's been the trend lately. If they're easier to make headcanons for, they're going to be more popular.
