Upcoming ninja series Ninja Slayer has released its first animated trailer, seeming to promise much in the way of brutal ninja battles and suspenseful drama – and perhaps a contender for the mantle of “top ninja anime” now Naruto is finally winding down.

Watched both trailers, and I felt the 2nd trailer felt more compelling than the actual trailer sadly. I mean it was good, the first one, til all moe had to break loose.

How did _that_ happen? Was it actually popular in Japan? Not that it doesn't deserve to; it probably has a refreshing/exotic appeal to Japanese audiences, while retaining the moe + fanservice potential necessary for success.
Still, this all seems to me like an incredibly unlikely event.
It's a parody. There is no actual American novel, it's all something the Japanese authors made up on twitter. The whole thing is a full costume parody of crappy American ninja mythos.
So it's a Japanese parody of an American perception of Japanese cultural history/mythos. Wow. I didn't even know something could be *more* meta than fuck.
