Charts giant Oricon rank for best selling manga of 2014, with the top spot once again being seized by renowned piracy series One Piece for the 6th year in a row, though with Shingeki no Kyojin hastily cutting the distance in comparison to last year – perhaps to catch up one day soon, not least with Naruto down and out.

Funny… I haven't seen too many of the anime adaptations of these manga but all the adaptations that were any good were ranked in the 20s (Kimi ni Todoke, Noragami, Chihayafuru). I wonder if there's something about big-selling books that interferes with anime quality.
I think there is… that the objective changes from making a good show to catering to a demographic, but I haven't thought too much about it.
I'm surprised that Naruto and Fairy tail got pushed down in sales ranking that much by new series.

Also, you can't really compare it to the top 30, heck IMO To Love Ru Darkness is a better manga in the genre, as Monster Musume wasted too much time introducing characters and rarely progresses the main plot.
It should be at least very close. By the first day of September many sites divulged that it sold over one million of copies in Japan and in west volume 1, 3 and 4 al ranked as number 1 in the new york times manga best seller list.

One million copies total, as in that's counting each volume sold. And US manga doesn't sell; that's not an accomplishment.

You know how people were afraid of what might happen to the manga industry when Bleach and Naruto end? Well this is what happens. A shitty overhyped series like SnK gets way more success than it's trainwreck of a story and amateur art deserves.

generally speaking, minus a couple anchor series, the top seller list rotates with whichever manga got an anime adaptation that year.
its pretty much exactly like the Western comics industry at this point where the top sellers have nothing to do with whoever used to be the "top series" and more to do with whatever movie came out that year.
its a guarantee that whatever superhero movie came out that year, the associated comic will dominate the sales charts.
