Only anal no-lifers would initially notice that. You would have to be purposely looking for issues, instead of watching the anime for what it is, to notice that.
I agree with you bro, these people don't seem to understand how animation works. Budget is a serious bottleneck for shows like these. A show with average budget will have a few episodes where you will see a few instances where they rely on these kinds of frames to exaggerate movement and create the illusion of movement. It rarely happens and when it does, it does in an eyeblink. But what can you do, some guys are prissy princesses with giant dildos up their ass, everything they get has to be perfect even if it has only meh budget.
Maybe they didn't notice anything at first and replayed that part look for a glimpse of pantsu or something.

Besides that one scene, where's the "disaster" of animation? The rest of the show looks consistent to me. if you have an eagle eye on every little detail, then you'll see this, but in the moment, they hope you don't. Sometimes the cut corners. As long as its not a tremendous dip in quality, let it go.

This what happens when animation studios outsource part of their animation to other countries especially to Vietnam. ( I saw quite a few Vietnamese names on end credits)
I usually don't watch the credits. I remember seeing Vietnamese names in a really well drawn show.

This is what happens when you understand that this was a transition frame. It happens when you're not working on high budget - most anime is like this. To notice this you have to have been scrutinizing the show deliberately for flaws. (i.e. you hate it and just want to find something to throw at it, many shows this season have animation like this at times, why single this one out? That's what I have to wonder. Does the person hate harem? Or the studio in question?) Unless you normally watch your shows at 50% speed (in which case its high time for you to buy a new computer) you should find something better to do with your life than criticize a 0.25 second frame.

Outsourcing is a symptom, not the problem. Overseas studios can only be as good as their contract is worth, including Vietnamese ones.
When isn't sailor moon crystal criticized same way like this. I mean I see sub par scenes every 30 secs on that show from stick legs to out of proportion size creepy eyes! Toei animation has the worse quality control I ever known.

I watched a total 15 minutes worth of Rail Wars over the 12 episodes & I still think that was too much . . .

I dropped the show mainly because story is really bad. Why would a POW be treated like they are going on vacation? The art wasn't the reason.

He's not really a prisoner of war in the traditional sense. His whole country has been taken over by this War Maiden. This is fantasy land, not WWII. Relax.
Anyway, how does that one fact make the whole anime bad?
You have no idea how noble lord hostages are treated in the medieval period, do you? And there's also the part where they're interested in recruiting him.
But... the animation is horrible.
Animation is okay - other shows this season have similar frames every now and then. The show doesn't have the budget of say, Fate Stay UBW, you cannot expect a show that doesn't have that kind of budget to have a few episodes where they rely on transition frames to animate dynamic movement. I shouldn't be explaining this, if you have even passing knowledge of animation you should know what I'm talking about. Make an informed opinion, right now you're just talking shit because it's "cool". It lasted what? A quarter of a second? Unless your computer is a single core relic from the late 90's you have no excuse for watching shows at that speed. That gif is deliberately slow to emphasise the flaw, if you watched the show you would know that's not how long this scene was.

In some cases, yes, the prisoners are treated that way.
But not the exact way they are treated in this anime. They are potential allies, yes, but current enemies.

Yes, you got it right. They are “expected”. However, if you think that what was “expected” always happened and nobody ever acted otherwise, then you are being so stupid that you might as well stop.
Also, the exact issue isn't with whether it's “always” or “sometimes”. The exact issue is with how what is shown in this anime is different than what is “expected”. Treating your prisoners like guests? Sure, expected. Acting as if you were buddies and you were trying to become a member of their harem for whatever inexplicable reason? Dude, just no.
No. It's not SOME cases.
Noble captors were expected to treat their noble captives in a way fit of their station, thus the captives are treated like a guest - freedom to roam around the captor's hold, a proper room, meals fit for a noble..., while waiting for the ransom to be paid.
Captives were expected to pay their ransom within the agreed upon time frame and not attempt to escape.
It's all some nobility honor crap thing for their noble societies. Either side failing that will be 'shaming' themselves in their circle.
If there's anything about this that's portrayed wrongly in the anime, it's the princess' knights initially trying to shame the hero at the beginning. After all, his not some knight, his a lord. A lord's a lord, even if it's an enemy during war time. But I guess they covered that with the princess thinking of executing them after she found out.
just read the light novel. the anime is a disaster. only fanservice, bad voice acting and bad action scenes.
the light novel goes very in depth in the war strategies, battle tactics, politics and other really interesting stuff.

Seriously, the story IS really bad & is in no way related to RL events. I think the overall shitty story & animation is more of an issue here rather than how they're depicting the treatment of a POW.
