Legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki’s world renowned efforts in animation have at last snatched him an Honorary Oscar at the 2014 Governor’s Awards in Hollywood – the award in fact being his 2nd, with his first having been obtained in 2003 thanks to his classic film “Spirited Away” which won the title of “Best Animated Feature Film”.
A video showcasing Miyazaki’s acceptance speech:

Somehow I expect that even after he died, he will animatedly rise from the grave and make another animated move.
You mean he will "reanimated" himself lol
TIGHT LOLIBITCHES
I fapped to many Ghibli loli doujins over the years.
Vomits.
Like Tupac with his songs.
he will probably retire at the age of 200
what an edo tensei...??
Considering how many times he's been in and out he should be coming soon...
If he hits the climax of his series now, anime history will likely get pregnant with his lineage.
Not really, though, His works doesn't influence the industry.
That's one part of Miyazaki that I hate.
-Yes, he makes Great anime movies
-But he doesn't try influencing the industry more than just making a movie. Al lhe does is complain about the industry.
If he actually had influence, the industry wouldn't be in this current state.
Well he influenced the entire JRPG industry with Nausica. Through that's mainly because Final Fantasy ripped generously from his works.
Other than that I don't really know what do you expect from the man. The "current state" you describe is there because of market forces.
Actually I'm going out and say that there is absolutely nothing wring with the state of the industry. A ton of anime is produced each year filling every genre.
You don't have to watch moe if you don't want to. Or Free! Or Cross Ange or SAO etc. There's enough anime produced each year for anyone.
if Miyazaki hear what you guys called his works (anime), he might be angry, he always clearly state that his works are movies and not anime, we can't really compare them since as he claimed, its a different thing
and its true that he always complaints about today's anime, and he hates them
but I disagree that anime nowadays are bad, however I like his works (movies) even though I disagree his opinions
his influence is more toward analysis and the depth of the story, if you take the animation class, you will find out more about its influence, it is just that it doesn't influence anime specifically
***forced to write an essay about him because my teacher is a big fan of him, the other topics I chose are all denied that's why I know so much -.-
@yuriphoria
Well, I never stated that the current industry is good/bad. Heck, I'm still watching 20 animes per season.
It's because I read one interview with him, claiming that the "current industry" is bad because anime makers don't make them based on reality. He basically says they never observed real people and kept making bad animes.
So that coming from the mouth of a guy who has basically never made a "modern" anime TV series very irritated me.
------------
OOT, I don't watch Cross Ange because of F-ing Fukuda. Had enough of his antics from Gundam Seed Destiny.
He & his works influence the industry in that people probably swipe his stuff & stick bits & pieces of it in various anime from time to time, and others try to jump into the industry thinking they can get a chance to do stuff just like he did or better.
Very true. He has greatly influenced the 'fantasy' genre of anime (TV) in general, more or less. Even though I do agree with him on what he has said about the anime industry in general he still has made very memorable anime movies.
And "it's" means "it is".
Its is the proper word.
anime is a medium, not a genre. therefor you can get nausica, or k-on and all will still be anime. anime industry on the other hand, is a type of business. it's like comparing mini cooper of the old days (old morris) to today BMW owned mini. i love miyazxaki works, i agree with him on certain point. but then again sometimes my escapism self would want that "unrealistic" anime. but do i support the market to all cashing in on it? no... coz it kills quality stuff.
Influence only lasts until he passes away, I think he'd rather have the industry (as I think as well) find it's own path in creativity.
No Takahata love? :(
MONSTROUS NGGRPENIS
"This award is meaningless to me. I hate digital animation, and I hate you too capitalist American warmongers. On the bright side, at least I got to meet my waifu, Maureen O'Hara. Peace, fuckers." - Hayao Miyazaki
Oscar for Spirited Away?! That one was a SHITTY one! Really!
Then the Oscar commitee or whatever it is , is Shitty You mean?

Miyazaki is the master.

maximum redundancy achieved
I guess as long as there are incendiary anti-otaku remarks to be made, Miyazaki will still be around...
I knew all those retirement announcements by him in the past are FAKE and are part his marketing stunt!
Everybody knew.
Only if he use computer he would be Phil Fish in anime industry.
It's great that he's going to keep animating, but he shouldn't be doing it just for awards.
I wish I could get a nice white hair like him when I get old but probably I will end up with mostly black hair with a little bit of silver. At least I won't go bald.
I'm going on 32 and very rapidly balding... ><
haha, i am 28 and already bald, yay genetics!
but at least i am also lucky that shaving my head isn't looking too bad^^
I love Miyazaki's films besides "Arrietty" is so-so and "The wind rises" is a huge pile of shit.
He didn't direct Arrietty.
Yep! we can't blame him at all for Arrietty
The Wind Rises was shit for two reasons:
1) The engine sound effects. Re-dub it. Now.
2) They took a giant shit all over actual history because what REALLY happened wasn't interesting enough to make a movie out of.
3) We get it, Miyazaki. You wish you were an Italian flying ace back in the golden age of aviation. How about teaming up with Disney to produce a Duck Tales or Talespin movie that doesn't suck?
1) -shrugs-
2) you seriously think he does historical accuracy in his films? since when? why would you give a shit.
3) you forgot the pigs from porko roso. who had the first idea?
Just put subtitles somewhere for the audience, what kind of speech have to be translated at every sentence ?! Just strange.
Probably works a little bit better for a live audience this way.
please explain how to put subtitle with current technology for real life audiences, that doesn't distract them from the person on the spotlight.
So... You finally reveal your true form!
