The Railgun Cast Become Soccer Stars

The electrifying Misaka Mikoto and her lovely young cohorts from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun recently made several appearances at Tokyo’s Ajinomoto Stadium in collaboration with soccer team Tokyo Verdy, hopefully exploiting the narrow crossover between football fans and To Aru otaku.
The stadium showed Railgun characters on its screens at opportune moments during the game – and also had a multitude of Railgun-related goods available for purchase.

Just why Railgun managed to secure this honor while most soccer anime still have no connection to actual teams is of course something of a mystery…

I'm British and read a newspaper daily. The Sun has articles calling the sport both Soccer and Football. Infact Sky Sports News has a sports program every Saturday called "Soccer Saturday". Sorry guys, while the sport is mostly called Football in the UK/Europe etc. It is called Soccer in everyday life too.

I'm still wondering why many people really love this sport. Undeniably this is the hardest sport to score. Too much stalemate action but less results. Many games ended up tied or nil-nil. I prefer basketball where every game is decisive. Football/Soccer fans from South America are the wildest, usually games ended up with a riot. You also witness some naked streakers running on the field.
You need to update your knowledge.
They scored heaps of goals in World Cup last summer, so has it mostly been 20 years now after some successful changes of rules back then.

They scored heaps of goals in the group matches. They scored none (except on poor Júlio César) during the knockout stage. And if I recall correctly, they didn't score many in S. Africa four years earlier either.
I enjoy the two big spectacles (World/Euro) but the sport does have issues… Not enough incentive to play for the win, diving, rolling around crying. I'll leave aside all the biting for the moment.

Having said that, only in the first round of the knockout stage. The final three rounds (six games other than the Germany:Brazil debacle) saw a total of six goals. It’s like the teams became more afraid and more timid as they got closer to the prize.
Too bad for Japan however, that they couldn’t have had the Railgun available for play in Brazil.
Come on. Germany and Netherland scored many in knockout stages too. Total number of goals scored was about twice of that in South Africa.
